New Year - the most important holiday in the calendar rituals of the Japanese. Many games, rituals and ceremonies are associated with it. At the end of December, on the eve of the New Year, the Japanese clean up their homes, buy gifts for friends and relatives, send New Year's Greeting Cards, prepare festive dishes, put kadomatsu pine decorations (lit. “pine at the entrance”) at the entrance to the house, which symbolically protect the house from evil forces. AT new year holidays many Japanese go to their native places, visit temples, where they pray and ask for well-being for themselves and their loved ones. Girls and women wear colorful kimonos on the occasion of such an event. The arrival of the New Year is announced by 108 bells, the sound of which is heard at midnight from each temple. According to Buddhist beliefs, a person is burdened with 108 pernicious worries, and each blow of the bell drives away one of these worries. To the sound of the bells, the first visit to the temples of the new year - hatsumode - begins. with the first sunbeams On January 1, the Japanese congratulate each other on the new year and exchange gifts. With the advent of the New Year, it is customary to laugh.
New Year in Finland is a holiday in which reality exists inextricably linked with myths and fairy tales. By tradition, a plentiful New Year's dinner, fireworks, and festivities are arranged. It is customary for Finns to guess in new year's eve on molten tin: what it shows, that's what to expect in the coming year.
The real New Year begins only after the visit of the “Father of Christmas”, who leaves gifts when everyone is already asleep. For Finns, a universal gift for the New Year is sports equipment and a candle, which symbolizes love and friendship in the coming year.
Joulupukki is a Christmas grandfather who gives gifts to children on Christmas Day. Historically, the word is a homonym of the Finnish language, Joulupukki literally translated from Finnish also means "Christmas goat." The latter is depicted as a straw goat and also accompanies the Christmas holidays. Joulupukki has a wife - Muori (Muori, "old mistress") - the personification of winter. Joulupukka's assistants are dwarfs who sit in the Echo Caverns for a year and listen to how children around the world behave, and before Christmas sort out Christmas mail, help prepare and pack gifts.
In Sweden, the New Year is celebrated noisily, in a big company. At the beginning of the celebration, the Swedes traditionally sit in front of the TV and listen to solemn poems. After the end of the ceremony, bells ring out from nearby churches. The Swedes uncork champagne, stand up, raise their glasses and wish each other a Happy New Year. After that, people go out into the street, where they arrange festive festivities. The streets of Sweden on New Year's Eve are filled with the bright light of spotlights, lanterns and New Year's lights. On New Year's Eve in Sweden there is a tradition - to burn a huge straw goat. As well as breaking dishes on the doors of their friends' houses. Before the New Year, Swedish children choose the queen of light, Lucia. Lucia brings gifts and sweets for the children, and she also brings treats for the pets. Lucia is wearing White dress, on her head she has a crown with lit candles. The Christmas gnome, whose name is Yul Tomten, also brings gifts to the Swedes. He lives in the forest. On New Year's holidays and Christmas, he works miracles, he is helped by Dusty the snowman, mischievous mice, a prince with a princess, witches, a king with Snow Queen and ubiquitous elves. elves find gold Christmas decorations and gifts.
In Mongolia, the traditions of ancestors are carefully preserved. Mongols celebrate New Year twice. The first time - on the night of December 31 to January 1 with Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden, a Christmas tree and gifts. Second time - lunar calendar.
According to the lunar calendar, the New Year in Mongolia is called Tsagan Sar, which translates as white moon. It received its name in 1206, during the reign of Genghis Khan. Tsagaan Sar means the arrival of spring: after all, it usually falls in February. In the evening, on the eve of the New Year in Mongolia, in every Mongolian family, the traditional old ritual of bituleg takes place - farewell to the outgoing year. The next day after sunrise, all family members congratulate each other, then the round of relatives and neighbors begins. How more guests in the house for the New Year in Mongolia, the happier the coming year will be.
Fat ram, dumplings, dairy and flour dishes are served at the New Year's table. The Mongolian feast is a whole ceremony, as old as the tradition of celebrating Tsagan Sar. Everyone should sit in a circle, then tea drinking begins. Then the most respected person (the head of the family, for example) cuts the fatty meat of the lamb rump and distributes it to everyone present. In a circle there is a silver bowl with koumiss. Thrifty owners keep it frozen since autumn. It does not do without traditional milk vodka - archi. Fun, laughter, songs - first of all, according to the tradition of the Mongolian horse.
In Mongolia, the New Year coincides with the festival of cattle breeding, so sports competitions, tests for dexterity and courage are held these days. So on the second day of Tsagan Sara, regional races are held. Participants, their coaches, relatives gather in a predetermined place. Festively dressed young riders sit astride shaggy horses of various colors. The distance they need to cover is no less than ten kilometers. Participants are waiting at the finish line, talking animatedly, exchanging news and assessing the chances of their wards. This local New Year's race is loved by everyone in Mongolia. In Mongolia, Santa Claus looks like a shepherd. He is dressed in a fur coat and a large fox hat. On his side he has a snuffbox, flint and steel, and in his hands is a long whip. UvlinUvgun, accompanied by ZazanOkhin (Snow Maiden) and Sheena Zhila ( boy-new year). New Year in Mongolia coincides with the festival of cattle breeding, so Santa Claus wears the clothes of a cattle breeder.
In Russia, the beginning of the year on January 1 was introduced by the first Russian emperor Peter I in 1699, becoming one of his reforms. New Year 1700 was celebrated in Moscow on the royal order for seven whole days; homeowners had to put coniferous trees in front of houses and gates, for decoration, and every evening tar barrels were lit, rockets were fired, two hundred cannons were fired in front of the Kremlin and in private courtyards from small guns. All this was done on a foreign sample.
But the New Year became a truly all-Russian holiday in the 20th century. There are quite a few traditions of celebrating the New Year in Russia: festivities, mummers, buffoons and jesters, New Year's divination, decorated spruce, Christmas carols. The era of Peter the Great and subsequent reforming rulers brought fireworks, Santa Claus with his assistant Snegurochka and New Year's table. The attributes of the new year were: champagne, tangerines on the table, sparklers, firecrackers, chimes and a solemn speech by the state leader to the citizens of the country. AT Russian Empire balls were held on New Year's Eve, Soviet time they were replaced, as in a number of other countries, by New Year's lights and feasts that accompany traditional songs such as "A Christmas Tree Was Born in the Forest" and "Five Minutes". Since the mid-2000s in Russia, from January 1 to January 10, new year holidays. After 1990, it gradually became a tradition to burn fireworks and launch fireworks immediately after midnight, both organized and impromptu, simply by residents of a settlement, district, quarter or house.
In Tarstan, Kysh babay is the main fairy tale character at the New Year's Eve.
Usually depicted in a red, blue, sometimes white coat, with a long white beard and a staff in his hand, in felt boots. He rides on three horses. He is inseparable from his granddaughter Karkyzy, usually depicted wearing a white or silver fur coat.
New Year in Italy begins with a solemn procession by candlelight in the catacombs of St. Priscilla, where many Christian martyrs are buried. It is customary to celebrate the New Year in the country on the street, where nightly festivities take place. On the night of January 1, in the city center, crowds of people walking disperse along the avenues, traffic road transport stops. In Rome, Piazza del Popolo (People's Square) arranges New Year's performance in the open air with fireworks, acrobats and a light and musical performance. A well-known Roman tradition also says that the one who jumps off the bridge into the river on New Year's Eve will be happy in the New Year. Tiber. But the most Italian new year tradition- this is throwing old things out of the windows onto the streets (clothes, furniture, broken dishes, etc.). It is believed that in the New Year the one who gets rid of more rubbish.
BaboNattale. In addition to him, the good fairy Befana (La Befana) comes to obedient children and gives gifts. The naughty people get a piece of coal from the evil sorceress Befana.
But some argue that in Italy Santa Claus is generally a woman. And not just a woman, but a real witch. Her name is Befana. In her appearance, she is very reminiscent of Baba Yaga from Russians. folk tales. Only unlike her, the Italian Befana is terrible on the face, but kind inside. She goes from house to house on Christmas night and gives gifts to all the children. Translated from Italian, "Babbo Natale" means Santa Claus.
New Year in France, celebrated by the French in accordance with the Gregorian calendar, comes on the night of December 31 to January 1. But in some parts of France, the Christmas holidays begin on December 6th - the day of St. Nicholas. It is on this day that the French Santa Claus - PerNoel - brings gifts and sweets to good and diligent children. Wearing wooden shoes and with a basket of gifts on his back, he arrives on a donkey and, leaving the animal outside, enters through the chimney into the house. He puts gifts in shoes, which the children leave in advance in front of the fireplace. Per Noel's companion is Per Fuetard, a grandfather with rods, who reminds Per Noel how the child behaved during the year and what he deserves more - gifts or spanking. In some provinces, Per Noël brings small gifts on December 6th and returns again at Christmas with big ones. Also, PetitNoel, the child Jesus, can bring gifts.
Traditionally, New Year in France is celebrated with friends, while Christmas is celebrated with family. On December 31, almost all European countries celebrate St. Sylvester's Day. France is no exception. On this holiday, the French walk very noisily, eat a lot, have fun and wait for the New Year to come. The French take to the streets fancy dress They are called Sylvester Clauses.
New Year in France is celebrated in a large company of friends in restaurants and cafes of the city. The French love to have fun. They joke, dance in cone-shaped hats and shower each other with confetti. The New Year's lottery is a favorite entertainment where you can win a chicken or a turkey.
