Construction of a swimsuit pattern

Make a measurement on the figure as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2.

There is a small ripple in the center of the swimsuit cup, so you need to add 2 cm per fold to the measured value.

On the front of the cups there are drawstrings for threading decorative elements or fasteners.

ADVICE! If for some reason you cannot buy decorative elements for a swimsuit, they can be replaced with ordinary ties made from the same fabric as the swimsuit. Simply thread the strings through the drawstring of cups and bottoms and tie in a knot.

Swimming trunks are modeled according to the measurements taken from the figure. When fitting, you can make the necessary adjustments.

Keep in mind that knitted fabrics are very stretchy, therefore, when constructing a pattern for swimsuit bottoms and swimsuit tops, 10-15% of the length must be subtracted from the measured values (depending on the elasticity of the knitwear from which you sew a swimsuit.

Work description

To process the allowances on the top of the swimming trunks and along the cutouts on the legs with a flat overlay seam, having previously placed a gusset. Tuck the allowances on the finished sides by 0.7 cm, baste along the very edge with a basting stitch by hand. Measure an elastic band 4-5 mm wide to the desired length, wrapping it around the leg at the cutout of the swimming trunks and below the waist. Cut off.

Thread all three elastic bands into the trunks. Install a twin needle for knitwear on the machine. Adjust the thread tension by trying to sew on an unwanted piece of fabric. Stretching the elastic bands worn in the swimming trunks, stitch along the top from the front side with a double needle close to the edge.

ADVICE! If you do not have a twin needle for knitwear, you can sew with a large zigzag (stitch length 3 mm, stitch width 4 mm), also stretching the elastic bands. Process sections under the drawstring on swimming trunks with an overlock. Tuck 1 cm and topstitch with a straight stitch.

Stitch swimsuit cups with back straps. Overlock all sides. Fold over and topstitch with a double needle or zig-zig. Tuck the allowance on the drawstring and sew with a straight line.

Insert decorative ornaments into the drawstrings of swimming trunks. Insert the clasp into the drawstrings of the cups. If necessary, fasten by hand.

Swimsuits are in fashion, the top and bottom of which are made of fabrics of different colors, but in harmony with each other. For example, swimming trunks can be sewn from a plain fabric, and a bodice from a colored one, or vice versa. In this design, even the simplest design will look original and interesting, so that the attention of others will definitely be ensured. The bodice, made of two triangles of fabric, looks beautiful on any figure and is quite easy to sew, so this model will be the most good choice, and it is most convenient to sew swimming trunks, focusing on the style of your favorite panties. So howsew a swimsuit with your own hands?

Fabric choice

The fabric for a swimsuit should be elastic, dense enough so that it does not shine through when wet, dries quickly and does not deteriorate from exposure to chlorine, salt and water. sun rays. The best choice would be supplex material or knitwear chill: they meet all the necessary characteristics, are easy to work with, do not crumble around the edges and do not let arrows, and color palette wide enough for each girl to be able to choose the shade and pattern to her liking and make a swimsuit. It will take 50 cm of fabric with a width of 140-150 cm or 1 meter with a width of 90 cm.

The fabric for a swimsuit should be elastic, dense enough not to show through when wet, dry quickly and not deteriorate from exposure to chlorine, salt and sunlight.

Elastic band and accessories

To make a swimsuit with your own hands, in addition to the fabric, you will need 2 meters of flat linen elastic 0.5 cm wide. It is best if it is the same color as the main material, or close in shade, but if you could not find the right tone, you can use plain white or black. In addition, you will need a skein of thread, always synthetic, so that they do not collapse over time.

You will also need cutter's tools: tape measure, pattern paper, pencil, scissors, sharpened crayon or soap, pins and a sewing machine with a zigzag mode. After all the preparations are completed, you can start cutting and sewing.

When making a swimsuit, you can decorate it with beads, rhinestones, linens. Make original bindings or clasps using rings or ties from the same fabric.

Tailoring of swimming trunks

To sew a swimsuit with your own hands, you should start with swimming trunks - this is the easiest part of the job. As a pattern, use your any knitted pantieswhose shape you like the most. Cut them evenly along the side seams, attach to paper, secure with tailor's pins and carefully circle around the contour. Then remove the pins and align the lines so that they are continuous and smooth. Cut out the finished pattern.

Spread the fabric on a large table or on the floor so that it does not wrinkle or fall anywhere. Attach the pattern to the fabric, taking into account the direction of the main thread: it must go strictly vertically. Carefully, without stretching the material, secure the pattern with pins, and then trace around the contour with sharply sharpened chalk or remnants. Step back from the outline and draw 5 mm seam allowances. Cut out the piece with sharp scissors.

Then once again attach the pattern to the fabric and outline the crotch area around the edges: this will be our gusset. Remove the pattern, trace the top and bottom edges, and then cut out the piece. You don't need to make seam allowances.

Attach the gusset to the inside of the bottoms and sew on the machine around the entire perimeter with a zigzag seam. Then baste and sew the bottoms on the sides with a regular seam. Measure the circumference of the leg holes and the waist line, measure the same length of elastic and cut. Attach a piece of elastic to the trunks and wrap the edge in one layer, carefully bast, and then sew on a typewriter with a zigzag seam. The seam should run in the middle of the elastic.

When making a swimsuit, try to lay the lines very evenly, as tailoring flaws on a swimsuit will be quite noticeable.

That's all, swimming trunks are ready. Now you can proceed to the bodice. Most girls do not dare to sew swimsuits with their own hands - the patterns seem too complicated, and the process is time consuming, but this is not so. The process is simple and does not require special skills.

Tailoring of the bodice

The first thing you need tosew a swimsuit with your own hands - patternaccording to individual measurements:

1. Measure the width of the breast, while the centimeter tape should pass through the center of the nipple. Write down the resulting number.

2. Measure the height of the cups of the bodice. To do this, attach the tip of the measuring tape to the chest and lift it vertically up to the desired height. Write down the number.

3. On paper, set aside a segment equal to the width of the mammary gland. From the center of the segment, draw a vertical line up, equal in length to the height of the cups, and another line down 1.5 cm long. Connect the left, top and right points to make a triangle without a "bottom". Then, with a smooth semicircular line, connect the left, bottom and right points. To make the line come out even, you can use some kind of round object, such as a plate or saucer of a suitable diameter. The bodice pattern is ready, cut it out with scissors and proceed to cutting.

Fold the fabric in half front side inside. Attach the pattern to the fabric, pin it with pins and outline around the perimeter with sharply sharpened chalk or remnants. Draw 0.5 cm seam allowances on the sides and 1.5 cm on the bottom. Remove the pattern and cut out 2 pieces.

Cut out 3 strips of fabric for the straps: two strips 3 cm wide x 45 cm long, one strip 3 cm wide x 120 cm long. Fold each strip in three lengths, pin all over, then machine stitch with a zigzag stitch. strictly along the middle line. Remove the pins.

Attach the edges of the straps of a shorter length to the upper corner of the triangle cups from the wrong side so that the long "tail" goes down and the short one goes up, secure with pins and sew on a typewriter using a regular seam. Remove pins. Turn the side edges of the cups inwards by a 5 mm layer, pin or baste, and then sew on a typewriter with a zigzag seam.

Fold the lower semicircular edge in half, also pin it with pins or baste, and then sew with a zigzag seam. In this case, you should sew from the wrong side, and place the line as close as possible to the upper edge of the collar. The result should be a drawstring into which you need to thread a long strap. Repeat the same with the second part of the cup.

The swimsuit is ready, you can admire the result of your labors! Now you know for sure.

Patterning a swimsuit that you like can be too complicated, so first you should decide how much time you are willing to spend on making a beach accessory, and be sure to take into account your experience. Models of swimsuits, both open and closed, are very diverse. If you are going to sew it yourself, then you are striving for exclusivity. In the absence of a lot of sewing experience, it is worth taking simple patterns, and you can surprise with an unusual decor or even material.

Products made of jeans look very original when bikinis are similar in design to cropped trousers. There are stylized pockets on the bodice or, again, on the lower part. A non-standard look will be given to the product by various combinations of bows, ribbons, ribbons from the same material as the base. As a first experiment, take the simplest pattern, but work on the decor.

Tools and materials for work

To sew a beautiful product, you will need the following:

  • fabric (preferably elastic, but you can use regular fabric);
  • gum (latex or not);
  • cups, bones (optional and skills);
  • pins;
  • tailor's chalk;
  • scissors;
  • needle;
  • threads;
  • sewing machine (preferably with an overspoon);
  • fasteners;
  • additional decor (depending on your preferences).

In fact, to create the simplest product, you may not need any patterns, fasteners, or additional decor details, but only what you need when sewing any thing, plus elastic bands to fix the shape of the bottoms.

Sewing sequence

To make a swimsuit, work as follows:

  1. Cut out pattern pieces from paper.
  2. Arrange the blanks on the fabric in an optimal way.
  3. Pin the patterns with pins so that they do not move as you work.
  4. Circle the contours with tailor's chalk or remnants. Don't forget the seam allowances.
  5. Cut out all the elements from the material.
  6. Stitch the main seams of the product.
  7. Use an overlock to finish the edges.
  8. Attach rubber bands. Be sure to stretch them to the desired size during the sewing process, so that a uniform assembly is obtained later.
  9. Sew all the elements together.
  10. Make and attach decor.

When making any swimsuit, the work will go about the same, although the differences will depend on the specific model.

How to sew a swimsuit with your own hands: patterns

The process of making a beach outfit is largely determined by the complexity of the chosen model. If you are going to make a bodice and swimming trunks that are not in the form of triangles on strings, then you will have to start with making paper template. There are two possibilities here:

  1. Find ready-made version, for example in a magazine.
  2. Build everything yourself.

The first way of working is good because you don’t have to take measurements, scrupulously build a drawing. Ready patterns made to a certain size. True, average proportions are used. If you have a non-standard figure, you will have to work hard with the construction.

You can make a drawing manually or using a computer program. But if you are not so confident a PC user, it is better to use a ruler, pencil and graph paper.

If you understand how to sew a swimsuit with your own hands, you may not need patterns at all. There are models in the manufacture of which it is easier to do without paper blanks.

Choosing a ready-made template of a closed version

The first is the simplest pattern of a closed swimsuit. To perform such a model, it is enough to make two parts, sew them on the sides and below. In the places indicated by the dotted line, an elastic band is sewn in.

The following model can be used exclusively as a swimsuit or as a base for a bathing dress. Add a frill at the bottom in the form of a skirt and decor on top. To support the chest, it is worth sewing cups and bones.

The first two options are best made from elastic fabric, and the third has tucks that will create a shape.

Based on the last template, you can build a pattern yourself. Here all lines and guides are shown in detail.

Separate swimsuit pattern

So, you have decided to get an exclusive model. What to sew a swimsuit? The closed pattern does not suit you, because you like to sunbathe, and you also want to show the charms of the figure on the beach. Use the following simple option.

Below is more complex pattern separate swimsuit. In addition to the details of the base, there are also elements for sewing decor in the form of bows for both swimming trunks and the bodice.

If you like the template presented, print it, focusing on your proportions, and use it.

How to build a pattern yourself

If you can’t find a pattern for yourself, make a paper blank yourself. This is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. If you have no experience in building at all, but really want to sew a swimsuit with your own hands, the pattern is easily done according to the item that is available and fits well on you. Take panties from the underwear set suitable form, spread them evenly on the surface of a sheet of paper and circle the outline. First make one part, then turn the thing over and circle the other side.

It is better to use a product without assemblies as a sample. If you want to get an exact copy of the frill bottoms, you will have to slightly adjust the outline. As for a simple bodice pattern, you can make it in the form of a single strip with sewn-on straps, cups in the form of triangles on the belt, etc. Simplify possible variant to the level of their experience or the amount of time available for work.

As you can see, it is quite possible to update your beach wardrobe with your own hands and without going to the store. The swimsuit pattern is not very difficult to build, although it is better to use a ready-made template. Choose models, create fashionable things yourself.
