Insulation for winter clothes. Warmers in clothes. What are there and what is more practical and warmer? What is warmer synthetic winterizer or polyester

The approach of winter makes you think about your wardrobe, encourages you to check whether everything is ready for the season, whether there is the necessary outerwear. If it turns out that old thing already worn out enough and out of fashion, you have to buy a new one. For example, a winter coat. How to choose it correctly? What should be paid special attention to?

Everyone knows that the fabric itself does not heat up much, and in order for the coat to become more or less warm, you need to sew a heater into it. This is the most important part winter clothes even though no one can see her.

Insulation performs the main task - heats the body. More recently, no one could be frightened by the choice of insulation for the winter, but now a lot of foreign words have appeared on the labels that plunge the buyer into indecision and make it difficult to buy the right thing.

What types of insulation for winter clothes does the textile industry offer? Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each of them in more detail.

Insulation for clothes: types and characteristics

There are two types of heaters - organic, that is, natural and synthetic.

Natural heaters

fluff, which belongs to natural heaters, is the most popular, since its lightness and thermal insulation remain at a high level.

It is lightweight and retains heat at low temperatures, in addition, high-quality fluff lasts a very long time. In any downy clothing, the composition of the insulation contains a feather. This is necessary for the uniform distribution of fluff throughout the product.

Disadvantages: down insulation can cause allergies and therefore must undergo mandatory antibacterial treatment (which some companies neglect); the complexity of care (washing, drying) at home.

Batting- a half-woolen insulation, which in the middle to the end of the last century was used in the Soviet clothing industry when sewing overalls, and also as a heater for winter coats.

Currently, batting is less and less popular.
Disadvantages: high weight and relatively high water-retaining properties. Wool and fur very often used as a lining for winter clothes - a wonderful natural material, known for its high warming properties, as well as ease of care for it.

New Zealand Merino wool is rightfully considered one of the highest quality materials for the production of excellent wool insulation for children's winter clothes.

Disadvantages: high hygroscopicity and still considerable weight.

Synthetic insulation

Sintepon- is one of the most common synthetic insulation. It is made from polyester fibers bonded with adhesive, needle-punched or thermal methods. Light, warm, voluminous, cheap - at one time such a heater was at the peak of popularity.

However, as time has shown, the synthetic winterizer has a number of disadvantages: increased moisture permeability, air tightness, rapid deformation and fragility of the material - all this has led to the fact that the synthetic winterizer is used as a heater for the production of cheaper demi-season and winter clothes.

Hollofiber Hollow fiber (hollow fiber)- a non-woven fabric filled with synthetic fibers in the form of spirals, balls, springs, etc. It is this structure that makes the thing warm, since a lot of air is stored between the fibers.

By right it is considered a heater of the 21st century. Light, warm, moisture and shape resistant, hypoallergenic - it is an excellent material for the production of excellent insulation for winter clothes.

Varieties - polyfiber, thermofiber, fiberskin, fibertek, etc.

Thinsulate (Thinsulate) is one of the most expensive heaters. It is also called artificial down - it is just as light and warm. But unlike fluff, thinsulate cannot cause allergies and holds volume better without straying.

Fleece- made from polyethylene terephthalate fiber. Not only sweaters, sweatshirts, sweatshirts are sewn from it, but they are also used as a lining for a jacket or coat.

The main characteristic of fleece is the amazing lightness of the material with high warming performance.

Sherstipon (wattelin) refers to a mixed type of heaters. It consists of wool and polyester fibers in different proportions. The production technology of this insulation consists in passing the material through a carding machine, and then through a thermal oven to fix fluffy fibers.

The choice of insulation for a coat depends on the lifestyle and purpose of outerwear, as well as on the area of \u200b\u200bresidence. For warm city winters and office days, a padding lining may be enough. People who are fond of outdoor activities or work outdoors in winter should pick up outerwear on modern synthetic insulation.

What is the purpose of developing synthetic insulation in the presence of excellent natural materials? What provides them with heat-shielding properties? To choose the right clothes with a suitable insulation, you need to know their main types and features.

Synthetic insulation for clothes is a vast class of modern materials with heat-saving characteristics due to a special texture.

Initially, these air-filled nonwoven products appeared in the 70s of the last century as a cheaper alternative to natural options, but with the development of the polymer industry, they are increasingly more advanced in operation and more technologically advanced in processing.

It was completely forgotten and was not used outdoors for a long time, but now it is returning in a new quality and at a different technological level. For example, merino wool is used in the manufacture of thermal underwear, socks, middle layers of insulation and even outer layers of clothing (in the development or wool is one of the components of composite materials). Thus, against the background of the general spread of synthetic insulation, in particular cases, just the opposite processes can be observed.

Why, after all, in the bulk of clothing, natural heaters are being replaced by synthetic ones? The fluff remains, but for all its merits, it is an allergenic material. It is capricious in production and care - to “retain” it in clothes, it is necessary to use special fluff-retaining fabrics that prevent the migration of fibers, that is, they simply do not allow fluff to climb out of clothes. When wet, down loses its heat-shielding properties and dries for a very long time. And with frequent washing and active wear, it wears out into dust and falls off.

Wool is hypoallergenic, but can irritate the skin. It is subject to wear, shrinkage and is also afraid of water. Insulation with wool and fur makes clothes noticeably heavier, so this option is practically not used in clothes for such types of outdoor activities, where low weight and volume play a vital role, for example, in mountaineering equipment.

Wetting negates the heat-saving functions of almost any insulation. But air-filled synthetics work better than down or wool in high humidity conditions, having a very low hygroscopicity and performing their functions even when wet.

The main differences between natural and synthetic products can be summarized in the table:

The main differences between natural and synthetic insulation
Characteristic natural insulation
Moisture absorption (hygroscopicity) Absorbs moisture Does not absorb moisture
Vapor permeability high Depends on type and brand
Hypoallergenic May cause allergies Does not cause allergies
Ability to accumulate static electricity

Down is not electrified. Wool is electrified

electrified
insect resistance Low high
Resistance to bacterial contamination high Low (requires treatment with silver salts)

Types of synthetic insulation

To successfully compete with natural materials, synthetic novelties must have:

    low thermal conductivity of the fiber material;

    light weight;

    high porosity;

    hypoallergenicity;

    hygroscopicity close to zero;

    good breathability;

    resistance to microorganisms;

    high elasticity and mechanical strength.

Polyester fibers differ in density, thickness, texture, twist type, which is why the choice of modern heaters is so diverse. Air-filled canvases are available in different thicknesses and densities for different weather conditions.

To improve wear resistance, a layer of insulation can be placed between thin non-woven fabrics - spunbond or non-woven.

Any changes, both in the design of the insulation layer in order to strengthen it, and in the form of twisting of the fiber, its length, allow manufacturers to patent more and more new brands that differ slightly from each other in their consumer parameters.

Consider the most famous types of synthetic insulation.

Sintepon

The synthetic winterizer is still the most common material for warming clothes. It is based on polyester fibers fastened together in various ways:

    adhesive- connects the fibers with special glue;

    thermal- fuses fibers with impact high temperature;

    needle-punched- entangles the fibers with penetrating needles.

However, adhesive technology is slowly becoming a thing of the past, because the introduction of chemicals degrades environmental friendliness and adds weight. In addition, the adhesive is easily subjected to thermal degradation during washing and dry cleaning, so such products are short-lived.

Needle-punched synthetic winterizer is the most dense and durable among its counterparts. And the hot-melt version is not only the most environmentally friendly, but also allows you to offer consumers the lightest and most effective insulation.

But this insulation is heavy compared to more modern developments, it clumps after numerous washes, does not hold its shape well and has low vapor permeability.

The widespread use of synthetic winterizer is due to its versatility and satisfactory consumer qualities, such as low hygroscopicity and easy maintenance. At the same time, it is cheap and its production has long been mastered by industry.

The temperature threshold for using synthetic winterizer is -10 ° C, and in order to increase its heat-shielding properties, it is necessary to increase the thickness and weight. Most often sewing synthetic winterizer has a density of 60 to 300 g/m2 and is used for demi-season clothing.

holofiber

The trademark "Hollofiber" belongs to the only manufacturer - the Moscow plant "Termopol", and recently it celebrated its tenth anniversary. For warming clothes, a modification of the Hollofiber SOFT material is used.

This is an improved type of synthetic winterizer, characterized by environmental friendliness, increased elasticity and low weight. Quick restoration of the shape and the absence of residual deformations are ensured by the special structure of hollow fibers (hollow + fiber) in the form of multidirectional microsprings that move freely when pressed and dissipate the compression energy. Lightweight fibers create additional porosity, increasing the volume of air per unit of material, and thereby reduce thermal conductivity.

It is a heater with zero hygroscopicity and reliably protects at temperatures up to -25 °C. The thermal conductivity of Hollofiber is almost half that of a synthetic winterizer.

For clothing, a non-woven fabric with a density of 60-350 g/m2 is used, in which twisted fibers are pressed and joined by a hot-melt method, and the surface is processed between calender rolls to give smoothness and strength. This treatment prevents the migration of fibers from the insulation layer and makes it unnecessary to use additional insulating coatings.

The thermal conductivity of the insulation is related to its density, and this must be taken into account in the first place when choosing clothes. At the same time, a comparison of heaters of different brands in terms of density will not be correct, because the thermal conductivity of, say, synthetic winterizer and Hollofiber is different at the same density.

thinsulate

Thinsulate is an innovative material similar in terms of thermal saving to natural fluff, but at the same time devoid of its shortcomings. It holds its shape well, is hypoallergenic and absolutely sterile. It is also called artificial swan down. Just as birds smear their feathers with a special substance to protect them from getting wet, so this type of fiber is coated with silicone for the same purpose. This not only provides one hundred percent protection against moisture, but also easy sliding of the fibers during deformation.

Its feature is excellent vapor conductivity, so the material protects against hypothermia even at a temperature of -30 ° C with active movement. It copes well with, effectively removing excess heat.

This is the thinnest of modern heaters with similar thermal insulation properties. It does not absorb odors, does not shrink and dries quickly after washing, completely restoring its shape.

To harden the surface and better secure when sewing clothes, some modifications of Thinsulate are produced with one- and two-sided padding made of cellulose fiber - interlining. Thickness of Thinsulate is from 100 to 230 g/m2, and today it is the lightest and most effective synthetic insulation.

Initially, the material was developed by 3M by order of NASA for astronauts back in the 70s. Its production from the thinnest, spirally twisted, highly siliconized fiber with a thickness of up to 10 microns is still expensive, so this material is used mainly for the production of professional outdoor clothing for amateurs. extreme species sports and polar explorers.

Fibertec

Firetec is a Belarusian brand of non-woven fabric made from hollow polyester fibers. The treatment of highly crimped short fibers with silicone allows them to easily slide relative to each other without deforming, without caking and quickly recovering their shape. The density of 200-400 g/m2 provides an optimal ratio of air capsules and fiber, so the material has excellent heat-shielding properties.

Often the canvas is reinforced on both sides with a spunbond - a thin non-woven fabric made of polypropylene, which gives additional strength to this kind of sandwich. Fibertek is an environmentally friendly, breathable material that perfectly protects against 40-degree frost, however, in this case, the thickness of the insulation layer will be greater than that of Thinsulate. The technology does not involve the use of adhesives, so it is absolutely hypoallergenic.

Compared to synthetic winterizer, Fibertek is lighter, dimensionally stable, and compared to Hollofiber, it is more durable, since thermal bonding of fibers is not used in its manufacture. After deformation, the insulation restores its shape by 100%, and even after three washes, its shrinkage does not exceed 3%. It is used mainly for special clothing, but its price is lower than that of Thinsulate.

Isosoft

Synthetic insulation under the Belgian trademark Isosoft is produced by Libeltex from ultra-thin fibers that form a dense structure. A double-sided spunbond coating is additionally applied to the surface, which prevents displacement and deformation of the fibers during operation. This contributes to good combinability with various cover and lining fabrics.

This plastic, hypoallergenic material reliably warms at temperatures down to -20 ° C, is easy to wash and dries quickly. The most demanded density for warming clothes is 200-300 g / m2. One layer of isosoft in terms of its heat-saving parameters replaces four layers of traditional synthetic winterizer.

PrimaLoft

Albany International's PrimaLoft ® brand of innovative synthetic insulation was originally intended for the US military. The manufacturing technology is the know-how of the manufacturer, but it is known that high consumer characteristics have been achieved by combining long ultra-thin polyester fibers with a special water-repellent coating and variable cross-section fibers.

Imitation of natural fluff allows you to create a highly porous structure, strong and elastic, quickly restores volume and dries faster than the natural prototype.

The Primaloft material is just as light, but practically does not absorb water. Therefore, military development very quickly found application in outdoor clothing, as well as in the equipment of fishermen, hunters, making their stay in extreme conditions as comfortable as possible.

Clothing with Primaloft remains dry at any ambient humidity, it effectively removes excess heat and moisture from the body during active movement.

PrimaLoft ® Sport, PrimaLoft ® One and PrimaLoft ® Infinity varieties are used for warming clothes. They differ in the percentage of fibers of different thicknesses and, accordingly, in specific gravity, caking and wear resistance. PrimaLoft ® One is considered the lightest and warmest, it is most often used in activewear, and it holds its shape best and is characterized by increased wear resistance of PrimaLoft ® Sport. Therefore, as a rule, it is this variety that is used in the manufacture of clothing for extreme conditions, shoes and sports equipment.

In 2014, PrimaLoft ® partnered with The North Face ® to launch the new Thermoball ® insulation. Its peculiarity lies in the structure of fibers that imitate the texture of fluffs. Rounded balls of PrimaLoft ® Thermoball ® synthetic fiber hold heat as well as natural down, but are much more resistant to moisture and dry quickly.

In addition to synthetic insulators, PrimaLoft ® developed and began to produce hybrid insulation series PrimaLoft ® Gold Insulation Down Blend and PrimaLoft ® Silver Insulation Down Blend. In the "golden" line, the ultra-fine Primaloft fiber is mixed with natural goose down in a ratio of 30/70; and in the "silver" - 40/60. In hybrid heaters beneficial features natural and synthetic fibers are combined in such a way that the final result allows to achieve the maximum efficiency of the thermal insulation of the material. In addition, hybrid heaters are cheaper than down ones.

Very often, Primaloft is compared with Thinsulate, and among lovers of high-quality outdoor clothing, disputes do not subside. Objective tests have not yet been carried out, but one thing is known for sure - both materials retain heat equally well and surpass natural heaters in performance parameters.

Mixed heaters

Despite the obvious shortcomings of the outdated synthetic winterizer, manufacturers seek to improve its thermal insulation properties and environmental friendliness by adding up to 70% natural camel and sheep wool fibers to the thermally bonded fabric. This is how Shersticron is obtained, the wind protection of which is three times higher than that of a synthetic winterizer, with excellent vapor permeability and low moisture absorption. This material is lighter than pure wool, but at the same time has similar heat-shielding properties.

In order to increase environmental friendliness, polyester fibers are sometimes combined with cotton. These materials include the little-known Italian insulation Valtherm on the Russian market. It is a plastic, breathable and warm material with a special cellular structure, used in children's and sportswear.

Care rules

Caring for synthetic insulation is almost the same for all brands and is not difficult.

Basic Rules:

  1. exclude chlorine-containing detergents;
  2. washing temperature 30-40 °C;
  3. dry in a vertical, straightened state in the air.

Unlike natural materials, synthetic counterparts dry quickly, do not shrink or go astray.

Summary

    Synthetic heaters are more convenient and practical than natural ones, but they are still inferior to them in terms of heat saving efficiency.

    The basis for the production of synthetic insulation are polyester fibers.

    The heat-shielding properties of the insulating layer are provided by a porous structure, and the more pores per unit area, the more effective the material.

    Types of synthetic insulation differ in thickness and density, as well as crimp and additional surface treatment of polyester fiber.

  • Other materials can be applied to the surface of non-woven fabrics of heaters to give additional strength.

On the left shelf of the lining there is an inside pocket with a “leaflet”. Designed for employees of internal affairs bodies with special police ranks, as well as for cadets (listeners) educational institutions higher professional education of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. It has red trim on the sleeves. According to the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia No. 575, chevrons are sewn onto the sleeves of the suit at a distance of 8 cm from the edge of the shoulder. A chevron is sewn on the left sleeve, indicating belonging to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, and on the right sleeve, a chevron, indicating the service of a police officer. You can add chevrons with Velcro. In addition, shoulder straps with buttons are sewn onto this tunic, and two lavalier emblems are also strengthened. How to sew on a shoulder strap? To do this, in addition to the tunic itself and shoulder straps, you will need a ruler, scissors, a needle, a thimble and strong red threads. Be sure to wear a thimble, even if you are used to sewing without it, as sometimes the needle passes through shoulder straps with great difficulty, and you can injure your fingers. If you find it difficult to pull the needle and thread out of the shoulder strap, then you can use pliers or tweezers. 1) First of all, prepare the shoulder strap, i.e. fasten all the required insignia on it, since it will be much more difficult to do this on an already sewn pursuit. 2) Take the shoulder strap and position it so that the side farthest from the button is close to the seam that connects the shoulder of the tunic to the sleeve. At the same time, the upper, directed towards the back, edge of the shoulder strap should go 1 cm from above to the seam running along the shoulder. In other words, the shoulder strap should be slightly shifted forward. 3) Thread the needle into the needle and fasten the shoulder strap to the tunic at three points: at the corners of the shoulder strap, at the place where it comes into contact with the sleeve seam and in the center of the semicircular cut. Now the shoulder strap will be securely fastened and will not move from right position during the sewing process. 4) Then we sew the shoulder strap very carefully around the perimeter, making stitches in such a way that only barely visible points remain on its surface in those places where the needle enters the shoulder strap, and the thread between two adjacent holes passes mainly from the wrong side (along the gasket) of the tunic . Then the thread will not be noticeable even if it does not quite match the color of the shoulder straps in color. In this case, the optimal length of each stitch should be about 1 cm. 5) With the second shoulder strap, follow the same pattern. How to strengthen lapel emblems? On the collar of the tunic - along the bisector (the line dividing the corner of the collar in half), at a distance of 25 mm from the corner of the collar to the center of the emblem, the vertical axis of symmetry of the emblem should be parallel to the collar. How to place awards on the police jacket? On the left side of the chest, the awards are arranged in the following order: Badges of special distinction are placed so that the upper edge of the medal block is at the level of the ledge of the lapel of the tunic and jacket. When wearing two or more insignia of special distinction, they are arranged separately in one row, from right to left with intervals of 10 mm between the lateral ends of the stars in the order listed. Badges of special distinction of the same name are arranged in the order in which they are awarded. Signs of orders, orders and medals are arranged horizontally in a row from the center of the chest to the edge, from top to bottom in the order listed. When wearing two or more orders or medals, their blocks are connected in a row on a common bar. Orders and medals that do not fit in one row are transferred to the second and subsequent rows located below the first, placing them also from the center of the chest to the edge in the above order. Blocks of orders and medals of the second row should go under the orders and medals of the first row, while the upper edge of the blocks bottom row is placed 35 mm below the block of the first row. Subsequent rows are arranged in the same order. Signs of orders, orders and medals are located on the single-breasted police tunic so that the upper edge of the block of orders and medals of the first row is 90 mm below the level of the lapel ledge. On the right side of the chest, the awards are arranged in the following order: Orders are arranged from left to right in the order listed. The upper edge of the largest order of the first row is located at the level established for the common bar (block) of the first row of orders and medals placed on the left side of the chest. Orders that do not fit in one row are transferred to the second and subsequent rows located below the first, placing them also from the center of the chest to the edge in the indicated order. The centers of the orders in a row must be at the same level. The distance between orders and rows of orders is 10 mm. The sign of the number of wounds made of gold-coloured galloon (in case of a severe wound) or dark red color (in case of a slight wound) is located on a bar made of the fabric of the top of the product. Galun width 6 mm, length 43 mm. The bad wound badge is placed below the light wound badge. The distance between the stripes is 3 mm. The sign of the number of wounds is placed on the tunic and jacket to the right of the sign for honorary titles Russian Federation, and in its absence, in its place.

Monochromatic jackets are recommended in the set for the summer uniform "Guard" in the off-season. On the camouflage version, you can use false epaulettes. We strongly recommend using washing machines with front loading, in case you are the owner of a top-loading machine, it is recommended to wash clothes and equipment in a special mesh laundry bag to protect against possible damage by parts of the washing machine drum. Close all zippers and velcro fasteners and fully loosen all adjustments before washing. If the upper fabric is membrane, then it is better to wash the product with the lining out (turned inside out). Wash on a delicate cycle at 30°C with a double rinse cycle (it is better to use two rinse cycles to make sure that all detergent residues are removed from the fabric and insulation) and spin at medium speed. It is acceptable to use a tumble dryer at medium temperature (40-60°C) for 30-40 minutes or until completely dry, if the top fabric is membrane, it is better to dry the product with the lining out (turned inside out). You can dry the product in a suspended state with the lining out. To remove stubborn stains, before washing, treat the stains with a special product such as Grangers Performance Wash or Nikwax Tech Wash, allowing the detergent to soak in for 10-15 minutes. It is better to store clothes and equipment with synthetic insulation in a straightened (not compressed) state. How to restore the DWR treatment on insulated clothing or equipment DWR is a special polymer applied to the surface of the fabric to make it water-repellent. DWR processing is not forever. During the operation of the product, as well as after a certain number of washes, the effectiveness of DWR decreases. If water droplets have stopped rolling off the surface of the fabric and wet the fabric even after washing, it's time to restore the splash-proof treatment. We recommend using special compositions to restore the splash-proof treatment of fabrics in the form of a spray, or poured into washing machine such as Grangers Clothing Repel or Performance Repel or Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In or Spray-On. First wash the product according to the washing instructions, then use the selected composition to restore the splash protection by spraying it directly on the front side product while it is still damp, or by running the second wash cycle, after pouring the required amount of wash-in into the washing machine. The manufacturer's instructions for the restoration of the splashproof treatment on the packaging must be followed exactly. Many DWR reconditioning products require heat activation, so it is best to dry treated clothing and equipment in a tumble dryer or dryer at medium temperature (40-60°C) for 40-50 minutes or until completely dry.

Insulation - two layers of synthetic fiber synthetic winterizer (270 g / m 2), which, unlike down, does not absorb moisture and is not afraid of frequent washing. The polyester lining is quilted along with it, which increases the life of the jacket (the padding polyester stays in place when dry-cleaning or washing). Unlike expensive membrane fabrics and down insulation, these materials do not require special personal care and do not raise the price of the jacket to exorbitant heights. Modern heaters for winter clothes are divided into three groups: synthetic (artificial), natural and mixed. The first type keeps its shape better, tolerates washing and active use.

Synthetic insulation - Isosoft

In addition, despite the artificiality, synthetic materials are hypoallergenic. Synthetic insulation does not accumulate dirt and does not absorb odors, does not attract dust and does not create a beneficial microflora for the appearance of mites and harmful microorganisms.

However, many people prefer natural insulation, as they consider this material to be safer and warmer. In fact, the effectiveness of the insulation depends not only on the type, but on the quality and technology of manufacturing clothes. In this article, we will learn how to choose the right insulation. Consider different kinds materials and determine which is better.

How to choose a quality insulation

Air is the best thermal insulator. Therefore, the more still air is in a unit of insulation, the better and longer clothes keeps warm. And the lighter the fibers, the more cavities inside to hold air. Therefore, the most suitable option is a lightweight insulation with low density.

In addition, high-quality material must be durable and resistant to wear, environmentally friendly and safe. It should not absorb moisture and foreign odors, lose shape, wrinkle and roll, shrink and become thinner during operation.

Down jackets with natural fill should have a label that reads “Down”, but such clothes are rare. As a rule, a feather is added to natural down and such products are produced with the “Feather” mark. In a quality product, the volume of natural fluff is 60-80%. The down index contains the first digit, and the feather index contains the second. For example, 70/30 means the garment is 70% down and 30% feather.

The label with the inscription "Wool" indicates that woolen batting is laid inside. Marks "Waltern" and "Polyester" denote sintepon and other synthetic fillers. In no case do not choose products with the "Cotton" label. Since this is no longer a warm down jacket, but a standard jacket with a lining.

High-quality branded outerwear has smooth and durable seams, reliable and strong fittings. The label is made in the form of a patch or made of metal or fabric. Inside the product side seam there is a label with recommendations for the care of clothing. In order not to buy a fake, it is better to buy clothes in company stores and departments.

Branded products must have quality certificates. At the same time, collars, hoods, belts and other parts are unfastened and removed. Opt for quilted insulation over a quilted lining. The lines should not be located closer than ten centimeters to each other. Avoid diamond quilting, as it reduces the insulation properties.

Natural heaters

Natural down or down + feather is an eco-friendly, lightweight and durable insulation for clothes, which, due to its specific natural properties, does not allow moisture to be absorbed. It has high thermal insulation qualities, warms well and is suitable for severe frost.

However, it is an allergenic material, so it is not recommended for newborns and children. infancy. In addition, down is a suitable breeding ground for mites and attracts dust well.

Wool or sheepskin is a durable and hypoallergenic material that is resistant to wear. Harmful microbes and insects do not accumulate here. This is a suitable insulation for children's overalls and envelopes that will warm the baby even in minus 25 degrees. Woolen lining or liner is used for jackets, coats and other outerwear, for the manufacture of warm pants, sweaters and sweaters. Read about wool care.

High-quality wool does not prick, does not absorb sweat and odors. It keeps heat well, but at the same time passes moisture and is not always suitable for active use. In addition, it is heavy in weight compared to other heaters. Therefore, wool is used mainly for babies up to a year and sedentary children.

Mixed heaters

Batting is a cheap type of insulation, which includes wool, viscose, cotton, synthetic fibers and production waste. Differs in low thermal insulation and heavy weight. It retains moisture inside and is rarely used today.

Sherstepon - modern insulation Russian production which contains natural wool and polyester fibers. The material is used for the manufacture of outerwear, sports equipment and bedding.

Differs in ease and elasticity, high thermal insulation. However, sherstepon can cause an allergic reaction. In addition, when exposed to strong moisture, it deforms. Without proper processing, moth appears in products.

Alpolux is a modern warm and lightweight insulation that combines natural Merino wool and high-quality microfiber. Includes the best properties of natural and synthetic filler. It warms well and retains heat, is safe and does not cause allergies, does not wrinkle and quickly restores its shape. Soft, plastic and elastic material.

Synthetic insulation

Synthetic insulation - 100% polyester. One of the most common and affordable polyester insulation is a synthetic winterizer. This material is made by bonding polyester fibers.

This insulation is distinguished by low cost, volume and lightness, sufficiently high thermal characteristics. However, it has significant disadvantages and disadvantages, including a tendency to deformation, increased moisture permeability and fragility.

The synthetic winterizer does not let air through, it is deformed after exposure to a large amount of moisture and active use. So, after washing, it loses up to half the thickness. Today, this material is used to make cheap demi-season clothing, as it is not suitable for temperatures below minus ten degrees.

Today, synthetic winterizer has been replaced by better and more practical materials, including thinsulate, isosoft and holofiber. Such products are distinguished by high thermal insulation.

At the same time, isosoft and holofiber withstand cold winter and frost at minus 25 degrees. And thinsulate is suitable for use even at temperatures lower than minus 40 degrees. In addition, ultra-modern clothing insulation is also gaining popularity, including shelter, silicone and thermofin.

The warmest silicone insulation

Hollofiber is characterized by availability, high quality and reliability. It has a homogeneous porous structure, holds its shape well, does not crumble even after prolonged use. Thinsulate is warmer and lighter than holofiber. It withstands lower temperatures, but also costs much more.

insulated baby suit or similar clothing for adults are made using various natural and synthetic materials. It's about not only about fabric, but also about heaters.

The most effective insulation is high-quality fluff. But the technologies for the production of heat-insulating materials from 100% polyester are constantly being improved, new materials are increasingly replacing traditional ones.

Advantage good insulation is that it does not let the heated air out from under the clothes and cold air under the clothes. This is achieved by the presence of a significant air gap between the fibers.

Down and other natural materials have a good structure for thermal protection, while achieving a similar effect with 100% polyester is not so easy. This was the main problem with the use of synthetic materials as a heater. Now many manufacturers have found quite effective approaches to solving the issue.

The skeptical perception of 100% polyester as a heater is justified, but these reasons can rather be attributed to the consequences of past experience. So what kind of weather, before, many companies, especially enterprises from the USSR, produced insulation that had a rather high density, caked, wrinkled, could not withstand washing and long-term operation. Naturally, such material could not fulfill its purpose properly.

Currently, polyester insulation is produced not from straight threads, but from fibers rolled into tubes, into spirals and into other stable spatial structures. When worn and washed, modern polyester does not lose its shape and properties. This is enough for the material to have a low density and have excellent thermal insulation characteristics.

What kind of weather can 100% be used for? Not too favorable in terms of temperature.

Polyester has acquired various trade names during its use, which you should know in order to understand how to use clothes with such insulation. Below is a list of the most popular brands:

  • thinsulate;
  • fiberskin;
  • holofiber;
  • polyfiber;
  • isosoft;
  • firetech.

Application of 100% polyester from various manufacturers

Thinsulate(Thinsulate). This is one of the highest quality polyester insulation, almost as good as down.

A very light and thin material that has all the positive qualities of natural fluff, but is devoid of its shortcomings. Thinsulate consists of microscopic fibers surrounded by an air gap. Clothing with this filler is thin, light, breathable, very warm.

Washes well and doesn't lose shape. The material is used for tailoring climbing overalls and sleeping bags, as well as for clothing for oilmen and polar explorers working in the harsh conditions of the north. Weights from 480 g/m2 will provide comfort with very severe frosts up to -60 degrees.

The spatial structure of the material, its stability allows you to retain heat even at very low temperatures. Even in clothes with a fairly thin layer of insulation, you can safely go outside at a temperature of -30 ° C. We are talking, among other things, about children's clothing.

To assess the quality level of thinsulate, it is enough to know that it is used in tailoring clothes for oil workers, sailors, climbers and people of other extreme professions. But overalls and jackets with such insulation are quite expensive.

holofiber- non-woven fiber in the form of balls or spirals, also found in the form of a plate. Made by sintering under high temperature. It has high thermal conductivity, low cost, restores shape after strong compression. For a warm autumn, a density of 70 g / m2 is suitable, for a cold one - 150, for frost up to -30 degrees - 300 gr. per m2. Hollofiber derivatives are holofan, fibertek, thermophile, etc.

What weather to wear a jacket in which the insulation is 100% polyester of the indicated brands? It is quite comfortable and safe in terms of the possibility of hypothermia, you can feel at temperatures up to -25 ° C. At the same time, the cost of clothing with these types of polyester as a heater is relatively low.

Regular polyester. It is often difficult to determine the manufacturer of the insulation, as well as the characteristics of the material. If there are such doubts, it is not recommended to go outside in clothes with such “fluff” at temperatures below -10 ° C.

Sintepon- material in which the fibers are not glued together - hold on to each other with silicone needles. Differs in low cost, is used when tailoring various jackets, other products. Frequent washing leads to a loss of original elasticity, reducing thermal conductivity. May have a density of 50 to 600 g/m2.

Often, manufacturers use several layers of padding fabric to provide the necessary density. A filler of 250 g/m2 is suitable for a demi-season coat designed for temperatures down to -5. Winter jackets in frost -25 are filled with padding polyester with a density of at least 350 gr. There are several improved filler modifications that have good durability (U-two, Freudenberg).

Sintepukh- a fiber produced in a special way, allowing its particles not to stick together, successfully imitating natural fluff. It has high wear resistance, dries quickly, does not wrinkle. Sintepukh with a density of 250 g/m2 can withstand frost down to -25, for light spring jackets designed for +5, 60 g/m2 is enough.

Isosoft (isosoft)Branded insulation, in which fibers in the form of balls are sealed between two surfaces. Manufactured by Libeltex. The design does not let cold air into the clothes, reliably retains heat. Easy to wash, dries quickly, does not lose shape. Quite thin, does not make the down jacket voluminous. In combination with a membrane, it withstands low temperatures down to -30 degrees at a density of 200 gr. per m2.

Grams and temperature

The amount of 100% polyester in grams in children's overalls often determines at what minimum temperatures such clothing can be worn. Naturally, it all depends on and on the quality of the insulation, but the weight indicator is sometimes a good guideline. For example, for a one-year-old baby, overalls with 80-100 grams of synthetic insulation are suitable for outdoor temperatures from + 5 ° С to -5 ° С. In order not to be afraid of hypothermia at lower temperatures, you should wear overalls containing 180 or 250-330 grams of insulation.

It is also impossible to indicate clear boundaries for the weight indicator due to the individual characteristics of the child (or adult). Someone tolerates frosts more easily, someone more difficult. In addition, much depends on the quantity and quality of clothing worn under the overalls. How to choose the right insulation for a certain weather.

A sales assistant in a reputable commercial establishment will definitely tell you about the thermal insulation properties of a particular 100% polyester in a particular piece of clothing. The main thing is not to forget to ask about it. Informative are the materials from the manufacturer. On the websites of self-respecting companies, there is sure to be detailed information about the properties of the insulation. It is especially relevant also for the reason that new, more advanced materials appear constantly.

What kind of weather polyester insulation 200, 250, 300, 350, 480 gr.?

When choosing clothes with synthetic insulation, be guided by the weather conditions characteristic of your latitude. The necessary information about the stuffing of a down jacket or jacket can be obtained from the seller or read on the label. Some types of fillers can be identified by touch - synthetic winterizer, synthetic winterizer, holofiber, in other cases you will have to believe the inscriptions.

For winter in the European part of Russia, you can safely buy a jacket with synthetic padding with a density of 200, 250, 300, 350 g/m2. It is better for Siberians and residents of the Far North to purchase a down jacket with polyester insulation 480 gr. (density per square meter).

Give preference to new materials, such as Thinsulate or its analogues - Polarguard, Quallowfill, etc. Clothing with such fillers serves for a long time and reliably protects from the cold.

Temperature characteristics - holofiber, isosoft, holofan, thermofin, tinsulate

Pure polyester is used to make various types of insulation materials. Temperature characteristics of some of them:

  • holofiber. It has high wear resistance, therefore, does not lose thermal insulation properties for a long time. Its warmth retention characteristics are comparable to those of natural down. Winter Jacket, sewn using holofiber, suitable for temperatures up to -30 0 C. Gusts of wind up to 15 are also quite comfortable.
  • Isosoft. Despite the small volume, it has excellent thermal insulation performance. This material is 3-4 times warmer than synthetic winterizer. It is soft and elastic, has increased wear resistance, good breathability, but at the same time is able to provide warmth. Due to its characteristics, even a relatively thin layer of isosoft helps not to freeze at low temperatures. It is convenient that the use of this insulation is suitable for both winter and demi-season clothing. So, up to what temperature is it recommended to use isosoft of various densities:
    1. at a density of 200-300 g / m 2 - severe winter colds up to -35 0 С;
    2. at 100-150 g / m 2 - mild winters down to -10 0 С or cold months of spring and autumn;
    3. at 40-80 g / m 2 - if not lower than 0 0 C, it will be quite comfortable.

The heat-preserving properties of isosoft can be easily increased by adding additional detail. For example, it can be a fleece sweater. Thus, a demi-season jacket with isosoft can be used if it gets colder, and there was simply no warmer outerwear with you.

  • holofan. Products with holofan retain heat and "breathe". The fabric is lightweight and durable, does not absorb moisture, so it is comfortable in wet and snowy weather. For spring-autumn jackets, the density of holofan is 150 g/m2, for winter clothes - 250 g/m2.
  • Thermofinn . It has excellent thermal insulation performance, is resistant to moisture, and is environmentally friendly. With a density of insulation of only 100 g / m 2, in frost -15 0 it will not be cold. 200 g / m 2 cope with frosts down to -30 0 C. And two layers from 100 to 150 g / m 2 provide frost resistance up to -45 0 C.
  • Thinsulate. It is used for the manufacture of warm clothes and shoes. It has the highest thermal insulation characteristics with low weight. Thinsulate is lighter than all existing analogues of polyester insulation, but at the same time warmer than natural fluff. Using this material, clothes are produced that are resistant to frost down to -60 0 C. In addition, the product does not lose its properties even in a humid environment. Previously, thinsulate was not found in mass production. It was used only in narrow areas of activity, such as tailoring for astronauts.

It can be concluded that polyester can withstand very low temperature conditions. However, the 100% polyester insulation to which temperature the indicator can drop depends not only on the material used. are of significant importance physical features person.

To summarize, is 100% polyester insulation up to what temperature is it comfortable? Someone at -25 0 C is warm enough, and someone, at the same temperature and in the same clothes, feels cold. Physical activity or a relaxed state is also important for thermal sensations. It is worth paying attention to weather conditions, in addition to thermometer readings: humidity, wind, sun.

Criteria for choosing clothes with polyester insulation

The first rule of a successful purchase is to carefully and thoughtfully read the labels about the materials used when sewing this product. They usually indicate the raw materials used to produce the material of the outer fabric, lining and insulation. All the original names of the heaters used are most often 100% polyester, which takes on various forms subject to certain technological processes.

The following rule requires consultation with the seller about the kind in outerwear and at what temperature it is designed. Clarifying information will help you navigate in a wide range.

And the last rule to remember is that what warms not polyester, but an air gap. The more free space between the fibrous structure, the lower the temperature threshold and the better the energy saving. A thing that meets all of the above criteria will be capable of long-term service.

Temperature conditions of various heaters in clothes

Synthetic filler is produced in two types: with high density and low. Both types are made from polyester fibers. The differences between them are only in production technology. A dense synthetic winterizer is laid in parallel and fastened with an adhesive layer, unpretentious and has a low cost. The technology for the production of hollow synthetic winterizer is characterized by bonding with silicone threads. The temperature indicators of both types are quite low and can withstand at least -10 ° C.

Although it is preferable to purchase a synthetic winterizer with a low density, as it is more energy-saving. Products with such a filler must be washed at 30 ° C without bleach.

Thinsulate passes even harsh tests of frost, at this stage of technological progress is the most versatile. Possessing the highest energy-saving properties, it is equated to down. The thinnest fibers allow you to keep warm even at -30 ° C, while being quite light and warm.

Returns after many washes original view warming in extreme cold. When buying such a product, you should clarify to what temperature children's clothes made of thinsulate retain heat. Thinsulate products are produced by order of climbers, athletes or oil workers who need mobility in their movements. Suitable for machine wash at 40°C and spin.

Polyfiber insulation produced according to the latest technologies having the form of hollow springs, balls. This method allows you to maintain the ideal shape of the product due to the existing cavities in overall structure. Winter clothing with this type of filler can withstand temperatures down to -25°C.

Due to its cheapness, it is possible to save money, while remaining warm. All currently known polyfiber heaters have almost the same properties that do not require special care. Of course, it is advisable to choose clothes, especially for a child, from hypoallergenic materials that freely let in outside air, but at the same time keep warm.

The polyester membrane is welded or glued onto the inside of the top fabric. A similar effect can be achieved by impregnating the material with a special moisture-protecting substance.

Such clothing, contrary to existing opinions, is unsuitable for sports or climbing, as it does not retain heat well and allows strong rain to pass through.

The structure of the membrane with the smallest pores passes air well, retaining moisture. It is not recommended to walk in such clothes in frosts below -15 ° C, and it makes no sense for children sitting in a stroller to purchase this type of overalls. When buying such a product, it is necessary that it be supplemented with a hollow insulation.

Isosoft insulation has a spherical structure and is suitable for active urban life. The main advantage of such a filler is its lightness and thinness. Due to the unique structure of the isosoft, it allows you to move in frost down to -30 ° C, without going into warm enough rooms for a short time without experiencing discomfort.

Polyester insulation is used in the manufacture of special clothing that protects against oil, oils and acids, when working in low temperature conditions. Despite these qualities, its use is limited by increased toxicity. People working in industrial facilities use such clothes in the tap on rare occasions. The temperature at which it can be worn without harm to health is not lower than -20 ° C.

Holofiber insulation is made various shapes and structures. Under the action of high temperature, the smallest fibers are soldered, forming the necessary shape. The main characteristics of such a product are durability, lack of accumulated static stress, hypoallergenic structure. Such material is able to store heat at a temperature of -30°C and at wind speeds up to 15 m/s.

Jopfil is not particularly popular, but it is used by the owners of large enterprises for tailoring uniforms. According to quality standards, it is allowed to be used in the manufacture of children's clothing. Excellent protective qualities allow the use of two layers of 120 g/m2 to protect at -35°C.
