The uniform of Russian railwaymen: photo, description. Ranks of personnel of the railway transport Ranks on the railway

Employees of Russian Railways are required to use uniforms. One of the essential attributes of such clothing are shoulder straps of the Russian Railways.

Some wonder why employees need such elements, because they are not representatives of the army or other law enforcement agencies. But in fact, Russian Railways is an important strategic facility that is carefully guarded. Therefore, it is used with the appropriate decals.

The history of the appearance of shoulder straps of Russian Railways

In the 19th century, since the advent of railway communication in Russia, employees began to use decals for the first time. At first, these were epaulettes, which eventually transformed into shoulder straps. Epaulets worn:

  • ensigns;
  • second lieutenants;
  • captains;
  • majors;
  • colonels;
  • generals and other employees of the Corps of Railway Engineers.

One of the essential attributes of shoulder straps is a button. For more than a hundred years, it had an image of a cruciform anchor and an axe. And only in 1932 did the crossed hammer and key emblem appear.

During the years of the Great Patriotic War shoulder insignia returned to the uniform of a railroad employee. Uniforms also changed. Only in 1995 did new shoulder straps appear in the Russian Federation, and the modern uniform of the Russian Railways also implies their use. Distinctive elements of the new sample were approved in 2010.

A variety of modern shoulder straps of Russian Railways

The entire composition of Russian Railways employees has elements corresponding to their rank on their uniforms. They can be casual or formal. FROM dress uniform white epaulettes are worn, with everyday - blue. Similar insignia are also applied to outerwear (tunics and jackets). Depending on the rank, the number of stars and badges varies.

Regardless of the type of decals, they are made by them. synthetic materials special strength. Such materials do not get dirty, do not lose their original color under the influence of ultraviolet rays, precipitation.

All railway workers have always had their own distinctive professional uniform, moreover, each road brought its own distinctive elements, characteristic of a particular region, to service clothes.

All this happened for the simple reason that most of the workers Russian Railways represented by lovely and beautiful Russian women. For example, on the North Caucasian railway, in winter time, the conductors coquettishly put on their beautiful heads Kubankas, their coat turned away with a natural scrawl.

To all kinds outerwear, and this is an overcoat or coat, shaped tunic , shirt to which it was necessary to sew on each shoulder side shoulder strap, attach decals, chevrons , buttonholes, which could indicate the rank, the position held, the attitude to a particular service of a particular employee. Includes standard and non-standard pants or skirts, there were uniform caps .

The historical path of development of the railway form was no exception and evolved in the same way as the life of our Russian society developed, depending on the solution of various social issues and the requirements of a particular era.

Such a historical, natural dependence is confirmed by time itself.

This is also evidenced by the era itself, when a strict class gradation existed in society with the consolidation of the hierarchical ladder. When the Second World War broke out, and the rear of the country turned into a united labor front, railway workers of all ranks began to carry on their shoulders again shoulder straps. At the end of a bloody war. people returned to peaceful work, restoring cities, factories, building new housing for the Soviet people. The railway uniform has undergone another change, becoming more like everyday clothes, while insignia have been saved.

The form of specialists of the Institute of the Corps of Railway Engineers

The first samples of the railway form appeared in 1809, when the Institute of the Corps of Railway Engineers was being created. This educational institution was supposed to train technical personnel for the railways. Cadets and graduates of the educational institution, in fact, wore military uniforms. The ranks and ranks of the working people were distinguished by silver epaulettes and gilded stars on them. All institute pupils wore an officer's uniform, but epaulettes were absent on it.

Buttons

Nine years have passed and a green edging appears on the uniforms of the railway workers. Smooth since 1830 buttons replaced with the new format. Now they depict an anchor and an ax in a cruciform position. The state emblem in the form of a double-headed eagle appears on the uniforms of the highest commanding staff. Buttons with an anchor and an ax served until 1932, after which a sign appeared, consisting of a hammer and a key.

Emblem of the MPS

In the second half of the nineteenth century, in 1871, the Ministry of Communications acquires a new emblem, which depicts a wheel and outstretched two wings. Subsequently, the emblem changed its appearance again, but its semantic interpretation testified that the main credo of Russian roads had not changed, they still sought to increase speed, be always accurate, and create comfort for passengers. For the first time, it became a single uniform for railway workers since 1876. The only exception is the territory of Finland, despite the fact that this country was then part of the Russian Empire.

Ranks of employees

The gradation of employees working in the Ministry of Railways at that time occurred in four categories. The first category included all those who, according to their degree specialization, were considered an engineer of communications and held the corresponding position. The second category included the bureaucratic "brothers" who served in central institutions. The third category included officials working in regional institutions. All other railway employees were assigned to the fourth category.

The personnel of employees of the depot and stations, uniform costume, differed only in the color of the edging on the tunics of two genera. The colors were: yellow with blue and red with green.

The last uniform reform of the railway workers took place on August 24, 1904. Since that time, the engineering and bureaucratic staffs had seven established uniforms, which included: travel, summer, everyday, special, ordinary, festive and ceremonial sets of clothes.

Earlier, up to 1867 engineering staff wore military uniforms. Subsequently, graduates of the institute began to be awarded the civil rank of engineers with the rank of provincial or collegiate secretary.

Little is known about the railway form of the first half of the nineteenth century. Franz Anton Ritter von Gerstner, the main designer and creator of the railway going from St. Petersburg to Tsarskoye Selo, purchased uniforms intended for carriage conductors in the countries Western Europe. On the eve of the start of regular traffic between Moscow and St. Petersburg, the management of the St. Petersburg-Moscow Railway issued a regulation in which all service personnel were divided into four company units. Military terminology was still preserved. The first company consisted of stokers, machinists and their assistants. The second company included: conductors and chief conductors. They wore a military uniform, the role of a headdress was performed helmet. Mandatory wearing of a fascinated knife and a black belt was prescribed.

Since 1855 lower ranks: machinists and craftsmen, who served five years on the Nikolaev road, wore silver galloons on sleeve cuffs, for ten years of service they relied in addition to galloons on their cap and collar.

The travel mater had a metal chest and sleeve badge. In addition, first-class specialists had three galloon stripes on their caps. Specialists of the second class wore two galloons on their caps, and specialists of the third class had one galloon.

The Crimean War ended, the Russian treasury was significantly empty, and private capital investments were required, which, with a view to the future, invested in the Russian railway. Over a twelve-year period, five dozen railway joint-stock companies were founded, which introduced a form strictly of their own type.

In the post-October period, until 1932, employees and lower ranks the railway wore a uniform left over from the time of the existence of the Russian Empire.

Since 1932, uniform costume railroader becomes dark blue. The distinctive signs of buttonholes were displayed on red enamel. For the rank and file and junior staff, these were corners, the middle link wore hexagons in their buttonholes, and the highest command staff wore stars.

Shoulder straps

In the middle of the Great Patriotic War, in 1943, the army and railway uniforms again sparkled shoulder straps. The middle, senior and senior command staff of the railway workers wore shoulder strap with a light green lining trimmed with a silver galloon. Private and junior staff relied shoulder straps made from black cloth. This ammunition was made in a combined version: at the beginning of the sleeve, shoulder strap had a hexagonal transverse shape, and was sewn from the collar like a rectangle.

Emblems by industry

The sectoral significance of the railway workers' economy was determined by means of the emblem; oxidized metal was used for its manufacture. The entire administrative service wore an emblem with a hammer and sickle superimposed on a French hammer and key, an emblem in the form of crossed lightning bolts was issued for signalmen. Those who ensured traffic safety on the railway were distinguished by an emblem with a traffic light. Locomotive drivers wore the image of a steam locomotive on the emblem, the conductors had an emblem with the image of a wagon, the railway builders had a bridge on the emblem. The uniform has been becoming a civilian suit since 1955. Distinguishing marks appear on the buttonholes.

On the railways Soviet Union in 1963, the emblem symbols were replaced, wings and a wheel appeared. The key and hammer in the form of a technical sign remained the same.

Since 1973, on the basis of the order of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR, the distinctive signs of workers and employees have been changed in railway transport. Private and junior staff were now required to wear on the left sleeves of jackets, cardigans, jackets and coat distinctive sign of a pentagonal shape. Its width is sixty-five millimeters, and its height varies from eighty-five to one hundred and eight millimeters. The pentagonal field of the sign was black, the border was displayed in green. A technical sign of yellow tones was placed in the wreath. Above the wreath was the emblem of the railroad. The lower part of the wreath was torn with the inscription "Metro" or "MPS".

Six years later, regular changes in uniforms are made for workers and employees working on railway transport. The main details of the clothing remained unchanged, including color scheme: light gray for summer period and black for the winter season. The order approved the official table, who was to be provided with industry-specific clothing in full. First of all, this concerned those people who ensured the direct movement of trains, were engaged in the transport of goods or served passengers. The indicated order determined the size of discounts in percentage terms, the cost of all clothing and the terms of wearing it were determined. The distinguishing signs of the senior administrative level also changed. buttonholes and galloons acquired a golden color. For privates and juniors, the parameters of the pentagonal patches, but only the height changes, now it varies from ninety to one hundred millimeters.

On June 12, 1954, the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR “On the abolition of personal ranks and insignia for employees of civilian ministries and departments” was issued. Behind him almost a year later, i.e. On September 3, 1955, the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 1624 “On uniforms and insignia for personnel railway transport".

Hello dear.
I don’t know about you, but I personally use such a mode of transport as the metro every day and many times. I'm used to it, it's convenient for me and saves a lot of time. Descending and descending repeatedly into the subway, I constantly pay attention to such a simple and ordinary thing as the shoulder straps of metro workers. Did you pay attention to them?
A question may arise - why, in fact, do metro workers wear epaulettes? Are they akin to law enforcement agencies and the army? Good question. Not related. But at the same time, the metro is a strategic object that is guarded like the apple of an eye, and since the metro previously belonged to the system of the railway department, the uniform and insignia should not surprise you.
I want to immediately warn you - I'm just studying the issue, and I'm not at least some kind of specialist in the subject. I'm just studying. This is why - if I made any mistakes - I ask you not to throw rotten kiwis, but to correct or supplement interesting and correct information.
So, as far as I understood and found out, in the metro shoulder straps are connected not with ranks, as in paramilitary organizations, but with positions. All positions in the metro can be divided into 5 unequal parts.
Ordinary, junior, middle, senior and senior commanding staff.
An ordinary person in the track service includes, for example, a track fitter for the maintenance of turnouts or a track and contact rail tracker. They correspond to the assistant driver. And their shoulder strap is like this:

By the way, shoulder straps come in different colors:
White - dress shirt
Light Blue - Casual Shirt
Dark blue - tunic and jacket with a zipper.
Next we have the junior team. This is the adjuster of the track measuring and flaw detection car, for example. Or a driver without a class or a driver of the 3rd class:

Behind them - the average composition. This is the Senior foreman of the railroads (sections) of the track or the Senior foreman for the current and overhaul of the track. This also includes the Engineer of the second or first class, who, in addition to working on the line, is allowed to run in and ferry between depots. Here are the shoulder straps:

As far as I understand, the driver-instructor also belongs to the average composition. Driver-Instructor - is engaged in monitoring the work of the driver on the line, as well as instructing those who intercede, etc. etc.:

Next we have the senior command staff.
This includes the Deputy Head of the depot, the head of various services in the depot - repair, operation. Also the chief engineer of the depot. Shoulder straps are like this:

Head of the distance, head of the depot or head of the department:

Next we have the highest commanding staff. It all looks like this. But I've never seen anything like it.

Have a nice time of the day.
