How to sew a felt wallet with your own hands for children

Sewing technology consists of the following steps:

  • Make a detailed pattern in accordance with the size of the future wallet. You need to cut out all the details.
  • Carefully lay all the paper details on the felt. Make sure that they have one direction along the fabric.
  • Chalk around every detail.
  • And also you should prepare the fabric for the lining and make a pattern on it.

IMPORTANT: When cutting felt parts, do not make seam allowances. Whereas for the pattern of the lining part, it is necessary to take into account the allowance. It is enough to leave 1 cm for the allowance.

  • Cut out the cut pieces.

  • Then the assembly of the product begins. Stitching should be from the smallest details. They are sewn so as to form separate parts. For example, it is worth sewing an inner pocket. If it is made with a zipper, then sew it into it.

  • By the way, you can work with felt without the use of cushioning and lining materials.
  • If the sewn-in zipper is longer than necessary, then it is worth cutting off the free end, having previously fixed the edge with a machine stitch.

  • The next step is to sew together all the internal parts of the product.
  • Then attach them to the outside of the wallet in the place where they will be attached. Sweep the inside and outside together.
  • Then sew the parts to fix them.

  • Sweep the cut flap of the wallet and sew a part under the clasp to it.
  • Fix the latches so that the wallet fastens to two parts.

  • Sew the flap to the main part.
  • Can be supplemented decorative elements, or to do without it is a matter of personal taste for everyone. The product is ready.

Felt is an amazing material! Bright, pliable, very pleasant to work with. From it you can create a lot of beautiful, interesting and useful gizmos. Earlier we talked about how to make a keychain, a bright topiary and an educational panel for children.

In this master class, we will introduce you to the process of making a stylish and compact felt wallet with your own hands. Despite its small size, it is very functional - it has compartments for everything you need - for banknotes, for coins and for plastic cards, and sewing it is not difficult at all!

Materials and tools for making a felt wallet:

  • hard felt three different colors 1-2 mm thick
  • lightning
  • magnetic button
  • standard set of sewing accessories - scissors, thread, chalk or marker, pins
  • sewing machine

How to sew a felt wallet with your own hands

We cut out the details of the specified size from hard felt. On the upper right and lower left parts, stepping back from the edges by 0.5 cm, we draw a line with a marker or chalk on three sides, rounding the corners. We will sew along these lines, and cut off the rest, thus obtaining a perfectly even edge.

We take a part with a slot and a zipper, we prepare a couple of pins.

We put the zipper under the part, align and fix it with pins.

Carefully, making sure that nothing has shifted, attach the zipper, remove the pins.

We fix the ends of the threads on the reverse side and cut the protruding tails of the zipper.

Now we take the next large part and try on all four pockets for cards exactly in the middle.

We attach one of the pockets, only along the bottom edge.

In the same way, we attach the second and third pockets, shifting them by 0.3-0.5 cm relative to each other. The line, as before, is placed only along the bottom edge. We attach the last pocket already with a U-shaped seam, capturing the sides of all underlying parts into it.

Now we take a rectangular piece with a side of 9 cm and attach a pocket to it.

It remains to make only the valve. We put the upper part of the magnetic button on the strap.

Fold the strap in half and stitch.

We cut exactly to the edge of the semicircular end of the rectangular one and attach it to the main part of the valve.

Now all that's left is to put it all together. We fold the details with a zipper, with pockets for cards and the last one with a front pocket.

We sew along the line marked with the marker, not paying attention to the slight displacement of the layers relative to each other, this is inevitable, but not scary.

With scissors or a knife, retreating from the seam a couple of millimeters, cut off the excess. The edge is even.

It remains only to sew the valve to the upper edge, while closing the pocket for small things with a zipper with this seam.

Today's master class will be devoted to making a capacious and functional wallet. classical form from felt.
I'll show you how you can sew such a wallet, spending a minimum of time and getting the most pleasure :)
Let's get started:)
We will need:
gray or any other color hard felt, not very thick - 1-1.2 mm;
beautiful fabric, leather, suede or any material of your choice for a decorative insert;
lightning 15-16 cm;
metal fastener of any convenient design;
seals (see detailed description of the work);
threads, needles, scissors and other ordinary sewing accessories;
iron;
sewing machine;
pattern printer.
When all the materials are prepared, you need to print the pattern.
I tried to prepare it in the most convenient form for use - I placed it on A4 sheets, which can be printed at a scale of 1: 1 and used immediately.
Attention! To get pattern sheets in big size- right-click on each of the 4 images below and select "Open in a new tab" - then the pictures will open in large size. Each of them must be saved to your computer and sent to print.

On the last sheet there is a square with sides of 1 cm by 1 cm - it is given so that after printing you can check the scale with a ruler (that is, the square should ideally be 1 cm by 1 cm on the printed sheet).
The author's pattern is provided for personal non-commercial use, when copying on other resources, I sincerely ask you to remember this and indicate the source :)
I recommend printing immediately on thick paper- at least 200 g / m2, so then it will be much more convenient to transfer its contours to the material.

Cut out all the details along the solid lines. The dotted lines indicate the lines of seams and markings. It is desirable to transfer them to the material when cutting.

Let's start cutting. Let's prepare the right materials- now it is felt, fabric and seals.

All felt parts can be cut without additional, in addition to the indicated, seam allowances, except for the main ones - the inner and outer walls, I recommend leaving an allowance of about 1 cm on them for the final even cut.
In two copies we cut the sides and details for the inner pocket with a zipper, all the rest - in one copy.

We cut a piece of fabric along the inner perimeter of the felt frame for the outside, with an allowance of 1 cm.
We cut the seal for the fabric insert in the same way, only without the allowance.
For the fabric insert, I used a soft seal, always on an adhesive basis. In shops sewing materials, especially for patchwork, you can find a wide variety of seals, especially a wide range of imported ones - I always advise you not to save on this, because, in many ways, it is the seal that often determines and sets the quality and appearance products. First of all, of course, this applies to bags and wallets.
We glue the sealant onto the fabric insert using an iron:

Now we combine the fabric insert with the felt frame and sweep the details.

Now you can stitch the perimeter.

Now it's the turn of the second seal. This is a special seal for bags, as it is called, made in Germany. It is quite expensive, today a little more than 1300 rubles. linear meter (width 90 cm), adhesive, dense, rather thin, but very hard. To the touch from the upper non-adhesive side it looks like dense skin.
We cut out this seal a couple of millimeters less than the felt frame - just so that later it does not stick out of the seam.

We glue with an iron. The following photo clearly shows the ratio of the dimensions of the part of the seal and the markings on the felt.

Now let's start decorating the inside of the wallet. Let's start with pockets. First of all, we will lay decorative stitches along the upper sides (everywhere where there are semicircular cutouts) of all pocket details, as well as sides.

We combine the details of the pockets in accordance with the scheme on the pattern.

And we sequentially attach them to each other, forming two solid blocks with pockets.

We try on the blocks to the main part of the inside of the wallet. We focus on the markup, it will help to do it smoothly.

Attaching.

The inside is ready, let's take care of the zippered pocket.

We combine the lightning first with one of the two parts and tack.

Then, without cutting the threads, on the other hand we put the second part, also combining it with the lightning and basting in the second circle through two parts at once.

The details are evenly aligned and fixed, you can sew. This is how it looks from the outside:

And like this - from the inside:

We cut the ends of the zipper, if they stick out, singe the edges with a lighter so that they do not fray. We sew together two parts of the pockets around the perimeter and cut the inside along the seam.

Now it remains to fold the pocket in half and lay one more line:

This is how the pocket turned out:

Now let's connect it to the sides.

To do this, you should first take them:

And then sew a line on a sewing machine:

The main part of the work has already been done, it remains to connect all the blocks of parts and install the locks:

We put, according to the markup, the lower part of the castle:

Attached to the back like this:

We’ll put the top one a little later, while you can just try it on:

We combine the inner and outer sides of the wallet:

Now we turn special attention on the markings on the seam line - we sew along the perimeter, without closing it in the places indicated by the marks! The photo shows where you need to leave the edges open:

Now we take a zippered pocket with side inserts and attach it between the marks, completing the missing lines:

We bend the wallet and add the remaining two lines to the sidewalls, it is first advisable to bast them so that the line comes out even.

That's all ready, it remains only to cut off the excess felt along the seams - we try to cut evenly using sharp scissors.

It remains to put the top of the castle:

Wallet is ready!

If a child has pocket money, then a wallet made with my own hands, will be very helpful. In this master class, a variant of a felt wallet is presented, but it can be made from any dense, non-shrinking fabric.

We prepare materials for a felt wallet

To get started, prepare necessary materials and tools:

  • a sheet of paper and a pencil (for a pattern);
  • a piece of felt or thick fabric (30 × 30 cm);
  • needle, thread, scissors;
  • glue gun;
  • Velcro for clothes (or a beautiful button);
  • decorations.

Making a felt wallet

To make the wallet more functional, we make it with two compartments - for coins and for banknotes. To begin with, we draw a pattern for the future product. The photo shows approximate dimensions and a simple shape, but you can make a pattern in any desired shape according to your size. The child can dream up and come up with what he likes.

To make it convenient to close the wallet, draw a lid of arbitrary shape. We cut out all the details.

We transfer paper pattern on felt. You should get 3 main parts: the back wall of the wallet with a lid (the largest), the front wall and the internal divider (the smallest part).

We collect the parts together, check that everything matches in size.

Now you need to connect all the elements. Can be stitched or glued. If you will stitch over the edge, then you need to do this along all the edges of the product so that they do not crumble or shaggy.

Now the main stage is completed - the wallet with two compartments is almost ready.

Felt wallet decoration

The next step is optional. We are making a purse for a girl, so we use hearts cut out of red felt as decorations and various rhinestones and stickers. What will be the wallet for the child - depends on your joint imagination!

To make the lid of the wallet close well, you can use Velcro or a button. For the button, you will need to make a loop on the lid.
