Handmade sweater bedspread. We sew a plaid from old sweaters. For a sweater plaid you will need

Surely you have old sweaters at home that have not been worn for a long time, at the same time it is a pity to throw them away. There is not enough time to dissolve and knit new things from them. For our plaid, you don’t have to dissolve anything. Warm soft plaid from old sweaters - a wonderful idea for a new life of old and unnecessary things. Often sweaters are knitted from natural wool, which keeps the heat perfectly, so why not make warm blanket that will keep you warm on cold winter evenings.

To make a blanket, we need:

  • old sweaters
  • stencils - a large and small square (1/4 of a large square), they can be cut out of cardboard or thick paper
  • roller for cutting fabric, if there is no roller, scissors will do
  • regular threads and thick threads for overcasting

Sweaters must be clean before starting work. Cut the sweaters into small pieces, then use a stencil to cut the edges as shown in the photo below. The edges should be as even as possible.

When the blanks from large and small squares are ready, you can start stitching them. Start sewing small squares first. Then move on to the big ones.

You can use a sewing machine and an overlock, or sew the squares with your hands, in any case, do not forget to make overcasting seams on the wrong side so that the details of the plaid do not bloom in the future.

From the wrong side it should look like this:

Hide rough seams on the wrong side will help any soft fabric such as fleece. Cut the fleece fabric to the full size of the blanket and sew it on the back. Make the edges of the blanket rounded.

When all the details are sewn, it is necessary to make an overcasting seam of thick threads around the entire perimeter of the blanket, as shown in the diagram. You can use any woolen thread for knitting.

Such a seam looks neat and beautiful, it will prevent knitting from blooming and threads coming out along the edges of the plaid.

Do you have a lot of T-shirts in your wardrobe? Let's find a use for them. We sew a blanket from old T-shirts. In this case, we will use the patchwork technique.

This process is as simple as it is fascinating.

We will need:

  • old t-shirts;
  • fleece on the inside of the blanket;
  • tape for processing the edge;
  • sewing machine;
  • ruler;
  • good sharp scissors;
  • iron;
  • interlining;
  • tailor's pins.

Take the T-shirts and arrange them in the order that the quilt ornament will be folded. Take a picture so that you don’t forget and don’t get confused in the process of work.

Cut out squares of the same size from T-shirts. You can use a ruler, or you can cut out a template from cardboard and cut out several layers of squares at once, chipping them with pins. Here you will need very good sharp scissors, because. knitwear is not easy to cut.

Each square must be planted on interlining. Trim straight edges.

Sew horizontal rows of squares. This blanket has 30 squares. You should have six strips of five squares.

Lay out the finished tapes and check the pattern. Now we will sew the ribbons together. You can sew the ribbons in order, or you can sew the top two first, then the bottom two and then sew them to the central ribbon on both sides.

This is the canvas you have.

This is what the back of the blanket looks like.

Take the fleece, put the blanket blank on top and pin both sheets along the seam lines from top to bottom with pins. Sew along this line on the right side of the quilt. So you will need to go through all the seam lines.
You'll need a lot of patience because you'll have to adjust every five seconds to make sure everything fits smoothly, because fleece is a very stretchy material.

Here is what you should end up with. This is the inner side of the blanket, the one that will be to the body.

If you have old sweaters at home, do not rush to throw them away! Of these, you can make with your own hands an original useful homemade product for the home - a warm blanket of sweaters.

“Knitted are decorative, original and sometimes they are not inferior in beauty and elegance to machine knitwear” (quote from M.V. Maksimova’s book “The ABC of Knitting”)

For the manufacture of this blanket-plaid, two old sweaters, one women's scarf and the remnants of threads from old works went. (Surely you will be interested). The sweaters were knitted from good wool, but it was impossible to unravel them, so she was in the process of wearing. It was decided to simply cut a certain number of squares with the dimensions most fully allowing the use of the material. The size chosen was 15 by 15 cm. After harvesting 42 squares, the edges were processed. Not overcasting, which is widely known, was used, but the glue method. A simple drawing was placed on a table (bench) under a transparent film and fixed with adhesive tape.

On the cut flap (uneven line of blue color) a metal ruler was superimposed along the red line and pressed very tightly against the flap. Further, with a solution of PVA glue "Joiner" (diluted one to one with water), all sides of the square were smeared sequentially along the RED line.

After the glue has dried (about an hour), you can continue processing the squares-cutting along the BLACK line. Then continue to work as usual - strapping to size, etc. Blanks - the next photo.

After that, I washed all the blanks, steamed them to size and connected them in the order I needed. The mode of washing the blanks was manual, sparing, at least with PVA and waterproof glue, but suddenly everything will spread. Fringes and decorative stitching between the squares were made from the remains.

Now, on frosty winter evenings, you can easily relax with a cup of hot coffee, wrapped in a warm blanket that you can make yourself. You ask how? Very simple! Do it yourself

To create a warm blanket from old sweaters, you will need the following materials and fixtures:

  • pins;
  • sharp scissors;
  • contrasting or plain threads;
  • sewing machine or thread with a needle for those who decide to sew by hand;
  • 10-12 soft wool or cashmere sweaters;
  • flannel fabric for the reverse side.

You may not have so many at home. old clothes. In this case, you can buy sweaters at a thrift store or any other store. If there are various elements on the clothes, such as pockets, buttons or decorative details, it is not necessary to tear them off. They will become a bright accent on the finished product and give it originality.

You can also buy ready-made scraps of fabric to create a similar blanket. But usually they are made of cotton, not wool or cashmere. That's why ready product won't be as warm.

Tip: do not forget to wash the sweaters before starting the manufacturing process. washing machine on delicate mode. They may have stains or an unpleasant odor.

Step 1. Choose a picture

First you need to decide on the pattern. Arrange plain sweaters with bright colors in a checkerboard pattern or make any other composition of your choice. Next, you need to decide what size the flaps will be, from which the blanket will eventually turn out.

You can cut your sweater into squares or rectangles. For example, pieces of fabric 22 cm wide and 30 cm long.

Step 2. Sew the flaps into stripes

Fold two rectangular pieces of sweater front sides. Align the raw edges, pin with pins so that the parts do not part during the sewing process, and sew on one side. Smooth out the seams with an iron.

Gradually add fabric until the strip reaches required length. For a medium sized duvet, you will need a minimum of 8 strips.

Step 3. Lay out the stripes

Lay out the obtained samples on a flat surface. Arrange the fabric so that the colors and patterns look harmonious. If you like everything, you can proceed to direct stitching.

Step 4. Sew the canvas from the stripes

After you have determined which strips will be next, fold them with the right side, be sure to pin them with pins and sew.

Step 5. Ironing

Iron the product with an iron at a low temperature. If some of the edges are uneven, cut off the excess fabric.

Step 6. Sew a blanket

Open up the flannel fabric. The width and length of the cut must match the parameters of the blanket. Fold both rectangles right sides inward. Pin with pins and sew on all four sides. Leave a small area about 20 cm untreated. This hole is necessary for the subsequent eversion of the product.

If desired, you can make the blanket even warmer. To do this, place a sheet of insulation between the flannel fabric and the sewn patches of the sweater. For example, synthetic winterizer or holofiber. You can buy them at any sewing store or atelier. The insulation must be sewn on by sewing a line on a typewriter or manually along the edges of the sweater shreds. After that, it is already possible to connect the resulting blank with a flannel fabric.

Step 7. Finishing the job

Turn the blanket inside out through the opening. Sew the cut with a secret hand seam. Iron the resulting product at a low temperature. A quilt made from old sweaters is ready!

You can see a good example of the manufacture of such a product in the video.

Mezzanine knitted deposits are familiar to everyone: a variety of colors, rich textures, a variety of materials, the remnants of the former luxury.

Grab your scissors and let's go! Succumbing to creative inspiration, we turn old sweaters into a cute country blanket.

Sweaters selected by color for washing, after drying, it is desirable to steam.

We take a bunch of rags and scissors, cut lengthwise and across (this is important) into strips of 12 cm.

Knitwear is easy to cut without a ruler, observing the knitting pattern.

Done, mix the strips.

Now we connect three strips, watching for color and dimensional compatibility.

We cut the resulting rectangles again into strips 12 cm wide.

We lay out the resulting strips of squares so that the color and textures evenly and harmoniously join together.

We estimate the approximate dimensions of the blanket, out of eight sweaters, the blanket will be 2.20x2 meters. We decided to collect long strips 2 meters long, three squares wide. We make sure that the squares match, knitwear is a malleable material, you can pull it up and stretch it out, so it is recommended to cut the material lengthwise and across to mix textures.

The canvas at the exit is alive, plastic and mobile. The inside came out almost better face. It turned out to be a double sided beauty. We cut the threads.

We tie the edge with a crochet, you can also use an overlock to make it faster, but more aesthetically pleasing with a crochet.
