Ring the main road of the rules of the road. Rules for entering a roundabout. Departure from the ring

They have their own nuances and subtleties that are very difficult for a novice driver to notice, catch, and then put into practice. One such situation in which you should be especially careful is driving around the ring. From the side it seems that there is nothing complicated in this - I drove into it, rode in the general stream, and turned into the right turn. However, this is not entirely true. Before you start a roundabout, it is worth understanding the nuances of the passage of the ring. After all, you need to enter / exit it correctly, as well as take a certain lane and not become an obstacle to other vehicles. How to get around the ring?

with a circle

In our country, the traffic flow moves on the right side. Therefore, the section of the road on which the driving is carried out counterclockwise in a circle is referred to as driving around the ring. SDA informs that the passage in a circle is completed only after the vehicle leaves this place on the carriageway.

Signs and markings

Regulation at intersections of this type occurs without the help of a traffic light. The sign "Roundabout" is installed at the entrance to the ring. Pedestrian crossings located on the circle are always unregulated. And the signs and markings determine the priority movement around the ring. SDA has a clear list of all road elements that are allowed to be installed at and before the intersection. Signs that can be installed in front of: "Circular traffic", "Main road", "Give way", "No non-stop traffic". The last two report that vehicles on the ring have priority. That is, a car that has approached a roundabout must stop and let other vehicles already moving on it, and only then enter. Otherwise, the driver will violate traffic rules, which may lead to the creation of a traffic accident.

The sign "Main road" allows you to move without stopping, without letting other vehicles from the secondary. Therefore, drivers entering the ring do not have priority according to the traffic rules.

Entrance to the ring

In order to be on the circle, you need to know from which lane you can call on it.

To get started, find out if the priority is moving around the ring. The elements of the road will help you with this. If the "Roundabout" sign is not accompanied by another ("Give way"), then the roundabout is the main one, and you do not have advantages before entering it. So, you have missed the vehicles, and there is a gap that you can use. The rules teach us that a turn is made from the appropriate outer lane. However, this does not apply to roundabouts. Therefore, entry is made from any row. And also on the roundabout, you occupy the same lane as before the intersection. You can not enter from the left lane, but take the extreme right. This is a gross violation.

In some cases, the roundabout has fewer lanes than the previous section of road. In these circumstances, the driver should change lanes in advance, according to the traffic rules.

Movement around the ring

Turn signals are devices that many drivers forget about when crossing this section of the roadway. This is a gross violation, because driving around the ring can include many maneuvers that other drivers need to be warned about.

As already mentioned, it is very important to monitor the technical means of organizing traffic before entering. Be sure there will be a sign "Roundabout". In addition to it, there may be “Give way”, “Movement without stopping is prohibited”, as well as other signs indicating which direction is the main one.

For the most part, almost always the roundabout has priority, but not always other roads are secondary.

When driving around the ring, the driver of the vehicle must follow his own lane and not become an obstacle to other road users. And when making a maneuver, be sure to use turn signals. Otherwise, there is a high probability of creating an emergency.

Turn signals do not turn on many drivers, driving in a circle, thereby misleading other participants traffic. Therefore, it is necessary to comply with traffic rules. When the passage is made must be respected by every driver.

Other roads often adjoin the intersection with the ring. The driver must think in advance what maneuvers he will perform.

For example, direct movement around the ring. Traffic rules do not contain this information, however, experienced drivers recommend sticking to the middle lane on a three-lane roadway. Even though your direction has priority, you still need to make sure that other drivers see you and let you pass. So, passing the ring directly, it is more convenient to stay in the right lane. However, this may obstruct the movement of other vehicles. Therefore, if it is impossible to take it, then you can rebuild in the middle one.

One of the nuances to which attention should be paid is on the ring. After all, at a roundabout it is allowed. During its execution, it is also mandatory to turn on the turn signals. So you protect yourself and others from accidents.

Turns on the ring

Turn right or left allows a roundabout. Driving rules for the first and second turns are different. The right one is much easier to do. For its execution, you will need to change lanes as you move, without interfering with other vehicles. Be sure to use turn signals. It would also be useful to reduce the speed.

Turning left is a bit more difficult, especially for novice drivers. However, having dealt with it once, in the future you will not experience difficulties. Turning is carried out only in accordance with the Rules of the road. Therefore, first you need to take the extreme left position on the roadway. As you already remember, a lane change maneuver necessarily occurs with the inclusion of the appropriate turn signals.

In the case when the road has two lanes, you should start moving from the left, and upon reaching the exit, you need to change lanes to the right and complete the movement around the ring, leaving it and turning.

With a three-lane circle, turning left is essentially done by performing the same maneuver as described earlier (with two lanes). But in this case, you just need to rebuild to the right not once, but twice. Maneuvering must be done carefully and correctly, since you are not the only participant in the circular motion and must remember that any of your mistakes and inaccuracies can cost you a decent amount.

Departure from the ring

When leaving a roundabout, the driver must learn one basic rule. Departure is allowed only from the extreme right lane. Before that, if you were moving in another lane, you let cars pass, and then you pull out.

Pedestrians and their movement around the ring

As already mentioned, crossings for individuals outside of vehicles on the circle are unregulated. Therefore, they must be passed according to traffic rules. Roundabout is quite difficult for motorists to pass, but pedestrians are often afraid of it. However, this fear is unfounded. Since people can quite easily cross the roadway at an unregulated crossing, the main thing is to wait until the vehicles slow down and then stop in order to let you through.

Traffic rules, driving around the ring: fines

Since there are rules, there are also penalties for breaking them. They depend on the violated paragraph of traffic rules. A roundabout will not hit your wallet if you conscientiously follow all the rules of the road.

Most common driver mistakes:

  • Directions
  • Ignoring the right of priority for vehicles traveling on the main road.
  • When maneuvering, the turn signals were not turned on.
  • Departure from the roundabout in any other lane, except for the necessary extreme right.

The exact amount of fines can be found in the regulatory documents. So, for example, for driving clockwise, the driver is deprived of a driver's license.

The driver of a vehicle that entered the ring during a red traffic light will receive a fine of about one thousand rubles. In case of repeated violation - five or deprivation of the right to drive a car for up to six months. Parking is allowed only five meters before the intersection, that is, before leaving the ring. Otherwise, the driver is obliged to pay about five hundred rubles to the state treasury.

The most important thing is to choose the right lane correctly by moving around the ring. Traffic rules are updated regularly, so it is worth keeping an eye on the changes. Also, carefully study road signs, despite the fact that you follow the same route every day. After all, driving by inertia, you may not notice a new installed element of the road and, as a result, cause an accident. And of course, do not forget to give way to pedestrians at the crossing in front of the ring.

Prime Minister Dmitry.

“Even in one city there can be different schemes, depending on what kind of intersection it is,” the head of government explained the need to introduce new rules. - Because of this, there are conflict situations, which could be avoided if these rules were uniform. Now the priority of the passage is given to those who move in the circle itself, and those entering will have to give way. This practice exists in almost all European countries and has proven to be effective.”

According to the adopted changes, a car driver, entering a roundabout of equivalent roads, marked with a traffic sign "Roundabout", is now obliged to give way to other vehicles already moving in a circle.

At the same time, there is an important caveat - if priority signs or a traffic light are installed at such an intersection, then the movement of vehicles along it is carried out in accordance with their requirements.

From a legislative point of view, from November 8, a new clause 13.11, note 1, appears in the traffic rules of the Russian Federation: “When entering an intersection where a roundabout is organized and which is marked with sign 4.3, the driver of the vehicle is obliged to give way to vehicles moving along such an intersection.”

At the same time, the third paragraph of paragraph 13.9, which sounded as follows, was recognized as invalid: “If a sign 4.3 is installed in front of a roundabout in combination with a sign 2.4 or 2.5, the driver of a vehicle located at the intersection enjoys an advantage over those entering such an intersection means of transport."

The government's initiative was previously supported by the Traffic Management Center (TsODD) of Moscow. “Currently, there are already about 54 roundabouts on the roads of the capital, 40 of them have introduced a circuit with priority on the circle, so the TsODD supports the decision that all roundabouts should have priority on the circle itself by default,” said the Deputy Head of the Directorate CODD.

By the way, on the same day as the decree on circular traffic, Medvedev signed another decree, which introduces diagonal “waffle” markings throughout Russia. Previously, as an experiment, it was applied only at a number of metropolitan intersections. Such markings can be applied to busy intersections, where congestion often occurs. Often this is due to the weak culture of drivers and the “wafer” will make them more disciplined, and at the same time better orient themselves at a difficult intersection.

Commenting on the introduction of waffle markings, the First Deputy Prime Minister noted that such markings are widely used throughout the world.

According to him, seeing such markings, the driver must understand that traffic jams often occur on this section of the road and he must complete the maneuver without creating obstacles to other traffic participants.

In order to “help” drivers to be more careful at such sections, it is planned to install systems for photographing traffic violations at such intersections.

It turned out that under the current legislation it was practically impossible to achieve real imprisonment for them.

In this regard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs wants to raise the maximum level of punishment so that the crime under Article 264.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation goes into the category of moderate severity. This, in turn, will allow the judge to send hard-core drunks much more often not to compulsory work, but to jail.

Roundabout intersections are objectively the safest of all types of intersections, because they prevent head-on collisions between vehicles. The organization of roundabouts is especially relevant when crossing more than two streets.

Unfortunately, many drivers do not know how to properly pass such intersections, because of this, the number of accidents at them is quite high.

In this article, the general rules for passing roundabouts will be analyzed in detail, namely:

  • from which lane to call on it;
  • which one to move out from;
  • which turn signals to show;
  • who to give way to;
  • how fast to move, etc.

And also we will analyze the rules for driving a particular roundabout.

Roundabout sign

In front of an intersection where a roundabout is organized, 50-100 meters in a built-up area and 150-300 meters outside a built-up area, a warning sign 1.7 "Crossing with a roundabout" is installed.

Directly before the intersection, a prescriptive sign 4.3 "Roundabout" is installed, which obliges us to move in the direction of the arrows.

On our roads, traffic at the roundabout is carried out only counterclockwise, since right-hand traffic is organized in Russia.

Priority signs with the direction of the main road may also be installed. In their absence, it will be an intersection of equivalent roads and, when driving in a circle, it will be necessary to give way to cars on the right that are about to enter the ring.

Circle speed

You should choose the speed at the roundabout in the same way as always, taking into account road and weather conditions.

If such an intersection has a large enough diameter, then it develops a high speed, which can cause serious problems with the arrival of inexperienced drivers at it, especially when you need to give way at the entrance to the ring, because while it is about to start moving after one car has already another one quickly arrives.

Therefore, it is required not only to choose the right moment to start moving, but also to start off confidently and immediately accelerate to an average speed at a given intersection.

Normal speeds at medium-sized roundabouts, under good road and weather conditions, are about forty kilometers per hour.

Rules for passing roundabouts

Rules for passing roundabouts in Vologda

Now let's take a closer look at the rules for driving at a roundabout at the intersection of Preobrazhensky, Pankratov, Okruzhnoye shosse and Leningradskoe shosse, included in the examination routes of Vologda.

  1. Moving along st. Preobrazhensky You need to go in the direction of the main road to the roundabout, and at the ring turn into the third exit to the right towards the street. Pankratov.
    Your actions:

  2. When turning into the second exit towards the Okruzhnoye Highway, the actions are similar. You can only drive from the right (outer) lane to the middle lane.

  3. If, moving along the Okruzhnoye highway from the side of the aircraft (in the picture - on the left), you need to turn to the first exit to the right onto the street. Pankratov, the following two methods are possible:
  4. If you are driving along Okruzhnoye Highway from the side of the aircraft (in the picture - on the left), and you need to turn right at the roundabout at the second exit towards Okruzhnoye Highway, then the actions will be as follows.
  5. From the side of the plane (in the picture - on the left) you need to turn into the second exit to the right towards the street. Preobrazhensky.
  6. When moving away from the aircraft (on the left in the picture) along the left lane, you can only turn onto the ring to the left lane (the turn signal does not need to be turned on due to the presence of a sign to move straight along the lane), to exit the ring, you will first need to change lanes to the right (outer ) strip.

  7. It is necessary to pass the roundabout from the Leningradskoye highway in the same way as the passage from the side of the aircraft.
  8. We go from st. Pankratov at the first exit to the right towards the street. Preobrazhensky:
  9. When driving through a roundabout from St. Pankratov to the first exit towards Okruzhnoye Highway:
  10. We pass a roundabout from St. Pankratov to the third exit to the right towards Okruzhnoye Highway:

In this article, I tried to consider all the main directions of traffic at a roundabout using the example of the intersection of Preobrazhensky, Pankratov, Okruzhnoye shosse and Leningradskoe shosse, and correct sequence actions while driving.

At other roundabouts, the first thing to do is to follow general rules passing roundabouts, as well as the above.

The set of rules includes a large number of subtleties that are remembered only over time. Driving through roundabouts is very difficult, especially for novice drivers. Usually they do not really understand the rules and pass such intersections with violations. In order not to get a fine and not get into an accident, you need to familiarize yourself in detail with all the nuances and tricks.

Roundabouts. Basic moments

A roundabout is sometimes referred to simply as a roundabout by experienced drivers. In countries with right-hand traffic, passing through roundabouts is possible only counterclockwise, and in countries with left-hand traffic - clockwise.

Traffic lights are never installed at this type of intersection. Traffic is regulated exclusively by road signs or markings. In addition, unregulated pedestrian crossings are often installed at roundabouts. In any case, the driver must give way to pedestrians.

Turn signals at a roundabout turn on at the entrance, exit and when the car is rebuilt into a different lane.

What signs are installed at such intersections?

Until recently, only one sign was installed in front of the roundabout - 4.3. It marked the beginning of the roundabout, but not the main road, and all cars had to let cars moving on the right pass.

Now the Government of the Russian Federation has slightly modified the traffic rules. Passage at roundabouts can also be regulated by signs 2.4 "Give way" or 2.1 "Main road", as well as sign 2.5 "Movement without stopping is prohibited".

Experienced drivers are accustomed to the fact that when they enter the intersection, they must give way to cars that move along the "ring", however, now you need to be more careful not to become the culprit of a traffic accident or receive a hefty fine for violation.

How to choose the right lane for driving at a roundabout

The rules for passing roundabouts do not include precise requirements for choosing a lane. Despite this, each driver, when leaving the circle, is obliged to change lanes to the extreme right lane so as not to interfere with other moving vehicles.

So, the driver can enter the "ring" from any lane, but it is possible to leave only from the right. Interestingly, before entering the intersection directly, it is not at all necessary to occupy the corresponding lane for further exit. At the same time, the correct passage of roundabouts will not be violated. Direction indicators must be shown. When leaving, only the right turn signal is displayed. When changing lanes at a roundabout, the driver must also turn on the turn signals. This may be a right or left signal, depending on the lane.

Right turn in a roundabout

First of all, the rules for passing roundabouts do not mean at all that the "ring" is always the main road. Inspectors warn drivers about this and strongly recommend moving slowly and carefully at this intersection. It is best to stick to your lane and not change lanes without turn signals.

So, you need to move to the right very carefully. This is the only way to secure the passage of roundabouts. For dummies, you need to remember that you can turn right at the ring only after the driver is convinced that other road users are letting him pass. After that, the driver must turn on the appropriate turn signal, slow down and smoothly drive into the intersection.

Left turn in a roundabout

When turning left, it is important not to violate the current rules for passing roundabouts. If such an intersection consists of two traffic lanes, then before leaving it, the driver must carefully change lanes into the right lane and leave the "ring".

It is more difficult if there are three traffic lanes at the intersection. In this case (if the car is moving to the left, that is, in the direction), the driver must change lanes to the right. He has to be very careful. Absolutely all actions must occur smoothly.

With such a maneuver, the main thing is to remember that passing roundabouts must be done without violating traffic rules. Be sure to show turn signals to prevent a ridiculous accident. It is also important to remember the order of travel. It is not recommended to break it, especially for beginners. The driver may simply overestimate his strength and not have time to complete the maneuver.

Driving straight at the roundabout

Very often, adjacent roads affect the passage of roundabouts. For dummies, it is good to remember the information that when driving straight on the "ring" it is best to take the middle lane (if the intersection has three lanes for traffic). Leave from the far right lane. If the car starts to move along the main road, you need to make sure that all other cars have stopped.

Of course, when driving straight ahead, you can enter from absolutely any lane in front of the roundabout, however, such a maneuver may interfere with other traffic participants. It is better to take care of a simple and safe exit in advance.

Also, do not forget about pedestrian crossings. Usually, an unregulated pedestrian crossing is installed in front of the roundabout. All pedestrians before entering the "ring" must be skipped.

Correct exit from the roundabout

So, how to call in and move on the "ring" was described above. Now you need to figure out how to properly make a congress. It is not necessary to explain that it is necessary to leave such an intersection only from the extreme right lane. The driver must be very careful when passing roundabouts. Turn signals must be shown.

When leaving the intersection, only the right turn signal is displayed. The driver must give way to all moving cars on the right and only after that change lanes to make the exit.

If the driver missed his exit road, it is necessary to make a circle again and return to a good place for this. It is worth noting that overtaking is allowed by the rules at the roundabout.

Penalties foreseen

Inspectors tend to be very strict about drivers passing through roundabouts. There are many fines for breaking the rules at this type of intersection:

  • for leaving the oncoming lane;
  • for not giving priority to a car that is on the main road;
  • for stopping at the "ring";
  • for the turned off turn signal;
  • for the exit from the far right lane.

If the driver does not give priority to other drivers, he will receive a penalty of 1,000 rubles. Exactly the same penalty awaits the violator, who did not pay attention to the signs installed in front of the roundabout.

There are even cases when the intruder starts to move against the movement on the "ring". Such misconduct is punishable by disqualification. The driver will be sent to court, and the judge will determine the term of deprivation.

The traffic rules say that stopping at a roundabout is possible only 5 meters before the exit. The rest of the stopped cars will definitely receive a fine. The penalty for such a violation is 500 rubles.

In addition, at roundabouts, you can get other fines. For example, for driving at a traffic light forbidding light, the first fine is issued in the amount of 1000 rubles. In case of subsequent violations, the driver risks losing his license for up to six months.

Also, if the driver decides to drive into the roundabout, leave it or change lanes and before that did not turn on the appropriate turn signal, then he is entitled to a fine of 500 rubles.

Some drivers move cautiously at a roundabout (hereinafter referred to as the RCU). They attribute the indecision to the complexity of such a site. Nobody argues that driving in a circle is more difficult than a four-digit or T-shaped intersection. And even an intersection with several crossings of carriageways does not cause such a driver's shock as the JKD.

But is it really so? Is it that complicated?

Disappointing. It's a delusion. The root of all troubles is in elementary ignorance of the rules for driving such an intersection and in the lack of experience. The logic of weaklings is simple: the ring is a difficult area, I will bypass it. As a result, the lack of experience is superimposed on the unwillingness to gain this experience. The result is complete helplessness in a situation where it is no longer possible to bypass a roundabout.
Let's fill the gap in understanding the roundabout in the complex.

What is a roundabout?

The answer is simple (although this concept does not exist in the SDA, clause 1.2 is silent about this): the JKD is an intersection in front of which the prescriptive sign 4.3 “Roundabout” is installed.

The peculiarity of this intersection is that it is organized, as it were, one-way traffic in a circle - from left to right. If the driver wants to turn around, then this can be done only with the exit to the intersection and passing it completely - 360 degrees.

How to move around the ring?

Which lane should I choose when driving in a roundabout? This is main question. According to Section 9 of the SDA, when driving along the traffic control, which is located outside the settlement, the driver must move in the far right lane.

He can leave it when bypassing an obstacle or ahead of it. It is forbidden to occupy the left lanes if the right lanes are free.

When driving in a circle, which is located in the village, the driver can choose any of the two lanes.

But if the VKD has 3 or more lanes, then the driver goes to the leftmost lane only to get ahead (if other lanes are occupied) and in heavy traffic (when other lanes are occupied).

How to pass a roundabout under the new rules?

On November 8, 2017, the requirements of section 13 of the SDA regarding the passage of unregulated roundabouts changed. The changes affected the rules of priority when entering and leaving the ring.
There is a lot of speculation around this issue. The roundabout is perceived by many as the main road. This is not true.
Consider 2 situations.

Roundabout - unequal intersection

If priority signs are installed in front of the traffic lane (or on it - before each intersection), then drivers are required to follow the requirements of the signs - to take advantage or give way.

This suggests that no one has canceled the priority rules in the Russian Federation: if at the entrance to the circle the driver moves along the main road, then all vehicles on the “ring” give way to him.
If at the entrance to the ring there is a sign "Give way" or "STOP" ("Movement without stopping is prohibited"), then the roundabout will be the main one. Not because the ring is now the main one, but because the corresponding signs of priority indicate this.

Roundabout - equivalent intersection

If there are no priority signs in front of the JKD and on it, then we have an unregulated equivalent intersection. The driver must forget the rule " right hand”: when entering such an intersection, he gives way to vehicles moving in a circle.

In other words, the driver gives way to the roundabouts. This is the standard world practice for regulating traffic on the road traffic control. Finally, she got to Russia.

How to enter the PKD?

According to Section 8 of the SDA, entry to the roundabout is carried out from any lane and from any position on the lane. There is no requirement to take extreme positions when turning right. This is the main and only feature of the passage of such an intersection from the point of view of Section 8 of the SDA.

Drivers do not always comply with traffic rules when driving a circle. However, there are rules of "driver's brotherhood" developed by generations of drivers. Here they are.

  1. If the driver entering the VKD is going to leave it at the first intersection, then he should take the far right lane.
  2. If the driver of such a driver intends to leave the PKD at the second and subsequent intersections, then he is recommended to move along the second and subsequent lanes, and when approaching “his” exit, change lanes to the extreme right lane, not forgetting to give way to those who are already moving along this lane.

Question. Can the driver move around the entire ring only in the far right lane?
Answer. Yes maybe. But this goes against the rules of the "driver's brotherhood", because it will create a nervous environment for those who from the center of the circle are reconstructed to the far right before exiting the ring.

How to exit a roundabout?

Here, the requirements of Section 9 of the SDA are inexorable: before turning right, the driver must take the extreme right position in the extreme right lane and turn as far to the right as possible. In other words, from the 2nd and other internal circular lanes, turning right to exit the traffic lane is not allowed (if this is not allowed by signs or markings). And with one more exception: if, due to the dimensions of the vehicle or traffic conditions (obstacle), the driver cannot take the extreme right position. In this case, you can deviate from the rule of the far right lane and turn from a different position to a different position.

How to use turn signals (turn signals)?

Another very a big problem. Let's figure it out.
Which turn signals to turn on when entering the PKD?
It seemed like a ridiculous question. Of course, right.

But this statement is true only for those who enter the circle from the far right lane. But those who are going to appear on the PKD from the 2nd and subsequent lanes turn on the left turn signals or do not turn them on at all. And all because there is a main rule for using turn signals: the driver should not mislead other road users with turn indicators. If drivers from the 2nd and subsequent lanes turn on the right turn signal, it would be possible to think that they are going to immediately go to the right. And this is misleading.

Which turn signals to turn on when driving in a circle?

The answer is unequivocal - none. The left turn, which the driver seems to make on the ring, is not actually a turn. This movement is straight with a constant change in the profile of the road to the left. And here turn signals are not needed, because they will again mislead other road users.

Another thing is if the driver is going to change lanes from lane to lane. Here, the turn signals are necessary, but they are turned off immediately after the lane change is completed.

Which turn signals to turn on when leaving the circle?

The answer is also unequivocal - right, because the movement at the intersection-exit is to the right.

Penalties for traffic violations

There is no administrative responsibility of the driver for violations of traffic rules when driving through the traffic control. It consists of sanctions for violation of the requirements of other sections of the traffic rules:

  1. Responsibility for not providing priority to priority traffic participants at any intersection (fine 1000 rubles - clause 2 of article 12.13 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation);
  2. Violation of the rules of maneuvering (a fine of 500 rubles - clause 1.1 of article 125.14 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation);
  3. Violation of the rules for the location of the vehicle on the roadway (clause 1 of article 12.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation).

Thus, there are features of movement along the PKD, but they concern two points:

  1. You can enter such an intersection from any lane of the carriageway.
  2. When passing an equivalent VKD, the “right hand” rule is replaced by the priority of the one moving in a circle.

Other traffic rules are classic and traditional for all intersections.
