Do-it-yourself skirt from old trousers. How to convert pants into a skirt. Old skirt: new life

Something has not been in my blog for a long time publications on the topic alterations and products. Although the possibilities of alterations are limited only by our imagination! I'm fixing the situation.

I bring to your attention the process of reworking old trousers and transforming them into a cute new skirt. You can both for yourself and for your daughter, depending on the build and the amount of material.

This is a simple skirt in the assembly, on the belt, on the bottom with frills. A few seams, a little bit of imagination and you can get a spectacular thing!

What we haveleftover jeans(recently, my brother asked me to make shorts out of trousers, I decided to use the rest as material for a skirt :)), piece of cloth(I have an atlas) - for finishing(again, the remnants of a recently sewn thing), threads matching tone, a piece of braid - gum.

You can start. To start : St - half waist, Sat - half hips and Du - the desired length of the skirt.

Then start cutting. To do this, cut the parts of the legs, preferably along the inner seam (double seam on the side - can act as an additional finish).

Cut out a rectangle using a ruler. the desired length and width, where width \u003d Sb + Psb - an increase in free fit approx. 1.0 - 1.5 cm, and the length is the desired length of the skirt (I do skirt with frill, so I subtract the width of the frill from the length measurement).

Then you can cut out the frills. If you are not sure how long the frill strip should be, you can cut it out after sewing the seams on the skirt and trying it on.

Important: the length of the strip for frills must be at least 1.5 times greater than the width of the finished skirt at the bottom.

Then we cut out the belt(watch the direction of the shared thread), its length is equal to the width of the skirt along the waist line.

We grind the seams(I have this front and back middle seam). It's okay if the seam that you haven't ripped is not on the side, the main thing watch the symmetry of the parts.

Preparing a frill, for this: grind down a strip for a frill along short cuts into a ring (I do this so that the frill looks aesthetic, but you can also use a regular seam) processing the bottom(I have a line - “zigzag”) and assemble the assembly along the top edge of the frill.

We note and stitch the frill.

Then sew on the belt leaving an open area for threading the braid - elastic bands (you can stitch it as in the photo)

.

We put in a braid - an elastic band, the skirt is ready!

In this version, the skirt seemed a little boring to me. I decide to "cheer" her via from the same fabric as the frill with a belt. I draw an arbitrary motif, for example, a flower, and sew it on the front of the skirt with a zigzag stitch.

Now it's just a unique thing(she is the only one, there is no other like this :)). By the way, you can sew a nice bikini (upper part) to this skirt (from the same remnants of satin!) wonderful beach set.

You are now convinced that changing things is very easy, you just need to be smart, and seemingly unnecessary pieces of fabric will find a new life. Fantasize and you will succeed!

Best wishes, Elena Krasovskaya

The first way is classic. Using these instructions, you can sew a knee-length skirt out of jeans, a little lower or a little higher, a straight skirt, a little narrower or a little flared. The length of the skirt depends on your desire. Width - from the cut of the jeans and the width of the wedges that you insert into the skirt. From skinny jeans with narrow wedges (or one, in front), a pencil skirt will come out, from flared jeans with wide wedges - an A-shaped skirt, or a bell skirt. For a straight or slightly tapered model, you can leave out the wedge from the back: the resulting cut will act as a slot. You can hem the bottom of the skirt or leave it raw.

So, you will need:

A pair of jeans;

Tailor's scissors;

pins;

Ripper;

Sewing machine and thread.

1. Decide on the length of the future skirt, add about 3 cm and cut the legs of the jeans to the desired length.

2. Open the crotch seams.

3. Open the middle seams at the front and back.

4. Lay the leg pieces on top of each other, trying to form a flat canvas. Please note: if you do not open the middle seams too high, you will get a more flared skirt. If you rip the seams higher and overlap more, then you can form a narrower skirt.

5. Sew seams front and back.

6. From the cut pieces of the legs, cut out 2 pieces for the wedges. If you want to leave the back slit as a slot, you will need 1 piece.

7. Attach the fabric for the wedge from the inside to the front of the skirt, as shown in the photo. Pin with pins.

8. Sew the detail on the front along the preserved lines of the stitching of the jeans.

9. Repeat for the back of the skirt if you don't want to leave a slit. If you leave the slot, finish the edges of the cut by stitching along the remaining lines of the jeans stitching.

10. Trim off excess fabric from the inside.

11. Trim the bottom of the skirt.

12. Finish the bottom if desired.

2. Jeans skirt - seam wedge option: master class

In general, this option for turning jeans into a skirt is similar to the classic one described above. The difference is in the wedges: if you cut them out of the leg section with a seam, the skirt is a little different.

You will need:

A pair of jeans;

Ripper;

Scissors;

pins;

Sewing machine and thread.

1. Decide on the length of the skirt and cut off the legs.

2. Open the crotch seams and partially the middle seams.

3. Cut out the wedges from the cut off legs, as shown in the photo. Pin one wedge to the front of the skirt.

4. Stitch the wedge along the remaining seam lines.

5. At the back, arrange the wedge a little differently - see photo.

6. Sew a wedge on the back and you're done.

P.S. By the same principle, you can sew from jeans maxi skirt. For her, you will need two pairs of jeans that match in color. Long wedges in this case are cut from the legs of the second pair of jeans.

How to alter leather women's and men's trousers into a skirt?

  • Working with leather products requires certain skills. Not every sewing machine can stitch the skin. And if you risk taking on such work yourself, be prepared for the fact that the sewing machine will not “take” such material.
  • If you are altering an expensive thing, it is better to entrust this work to professional seamstresses. Therefore, if you have a small piece of skin, check if yours can sewing machine flash it. And also check if she will take a thick double seam, which may need to be run along the side, back and front seam.
  • If you're not afraid to experiment and mess up your leather pants, then redo it as described above for jeans or dress pants.
  • Another difficulty when working with leather is that this material cannot be stitched and flogged and re-sewn several times in the same place. Because holes from the needle of the sewing machine will remain on the skin and possibly be noticeable.
  • If you want to make a skirt out of pants that are larger than yours, open the pants at all seams, lay the skirt pattern over the leather patches, and cut out two front and two back pieces of a four-piece skirt. But, in this case, all the sewing work will have to be done from scratch. Just like you would have to do when sewing a skirt from a single piece of leather.
  • Measure your waist and hips simple pattern for a skirt. And put the patterns on the details of the pants.

You don't have to be a professional tailor to do this. It is enough to use their techniques and in just an hour and a half you can get an excellent result.

What will be needed for this? Sewing machine, iron with steamer, ruler, crayon, scissors, needle, matching thread and tailor's ripper and pins.

How to properly narrow your trousers

To narrow down women's pants like the pros do, you should not make the mistake that almost all beginners do. You will have to remove unnecessary width not only from the side, but from the inner seams, while maintaining the symmetry of the existing cut. Otherwise, it is simply impossible to achieve a perfect fit on the figure. And do not neglect the intermediate steps - such as basting or steaming, only in this case, the result of the work will please you.

So. Turn the trousers inside out and carefully undo the hem, then undo the side and inside seams. If you are narrowing your trousers along the entire length, it will not be superfluous to rip part crotch. Then, properly steam the seams and let the fabric dry.

Now start marking. Measure along the bottom edge of the leg the width that you need, but be sure to maintain symmetry, retreating from the edges an equal number of centimeters. Now swipe chalk thin line from the markings on the bottom edge to the line of the hips, repeating the direction of the original seams.

It is imperative to lay a basting along the intended line - with small, neat stitches, make sure that the front and rear panels do not move. For reliability, they can be fastened with simple tailor's pins.

How to make skinny pants

After you have swept away the model, you must definitely try it on. Put on your pants and carefully examine the result of the work - you can correct it just at this stage. Correctly narrowed trousers should sit on the figure like a glove. The easiest way to achieve this is if the fabric contains elastane, it will provide plasticity and a good fit. But you need to be especially careful with natural cotton or wool, in which case a good fit will have to be achieved through precisely laid seams.

Professional dressmakers enjoy when trying on simple trick, allowing you to perfectly fit the thing on the figure. Put your trousers on inside out and you will see exactly where you can remove and where you need to add.

If the result satisfied you, it remains only to stitch the seams along the basting, get rid of it and carefully process the edges. Cut off all unnecessary, retreating from the new seams one and a half centimeters. If you do not count on the accuracy of your eye, draw an auxiliary line and cut along it. Now the edges must be processed on an overlock or a zig-zag seam and carefully smooth the seams.

Tuck the bottom hem without changing its width and secure with a hidden or velvet seam. Your new skinny trousers are made like in the best atelier!

How to narrow dress pants

To turn any model into stylish "cigarettes" or "pipes" you need to take into account a few professional nuances. Wide from the hip and throughout the valley, you can narrow down the classic trousers as you wish using the basic techniques described above. But before you get down to business, keep in mind that such models should be sewn in strictly repeating the silhouette lines.

When complex models and a thorough alteration, be sure to open the step seam, it is easy to restore it by laying a double line at the end of the work along the same lines. So you can proportionally reduce the volume in the hips, and get rid of unattractive creases and folds.

In order for the silhouette of the finished model to fit exactly on the figure, be sure to mark the knee line even at the marking stage. To do this, measure the distance from it to the waist - for each figure it is different - and set it aside from the model's belt. This label will enable you to find correct position new seams, now smoothly connect it with the marks on the bottom edge.

This is especially important if you want to narrow your trousers down like in banana or cigarette cuts. Measure the circumference of your knee with a measuring tape, divide it in half and add 2-3 centimeters to the freedom of the fit. Strictly symmetrically set aside this length along the knee line and draw a smooth line to the model's waist.

The width of the model in the hips can be adjusted to your own parameters. But the width of the lower edge in this case should remain no more than 15-18 centimeters. Set it aside just as strictly symmetrical with respect to the side and inner seams and gently sweep. It is these proportions that will provide the desired fit and excellent fit.

Old forgotten trousers or jeans can please their mistress-fashionista more than once. To appear in the wardrobe new thing you don't have to spend money. The main thing is desire and fantasy, and the thing that seemed unnecessary will find a second life.

Almost every woman has her favorite trousers that are tired or frayed, but it is a pity to throw them away, as they fit perfectly on the figure. By turning on your imagination and knowing how to hold a needle and thread, you can turn old trousers into a skirt. For rework, both denim and classic are suitable.

Skirt from old trousers

Favorite trousers found in the closet are not worn for several reasons:

  • came out of ;
  • size does not fit;
  • there are several couples more beloved.

Classic trousers are more suitable for sewing a pencil skirt.

wear for any occasion:

  • - to a disco and a summer walk;
  • - to work and travel;
  • - to a party and a walk in the park with a child.

It is this kind of wardrobe item that is most difficult to sew from old trousers and to make it work, certain conditions must be met:

  • trousers for alteration must be exactly the right size;
  • the step seam should open well (you will need it for allowances).

Step by step master class

In order to sew a new skirt from old trousers, patterns are not needed. Measurements and calculations will be obtained after fitting:

  1. Having decided on the length of the future product, cut off the excess length.
  2. Mark the widest part of the hips - to this point, cut along the inner seam.
  3. Try on the product, mark the excess fabric with pins, fit the skirt to the figure.
  4. Stitch the seams with a sewing machine.
  5. Turn and hem the product. The skirt is ready.

Remember to leave an inch and a half seam allowance. When sewing a classic style, you need to make a wide seam by tucking the fabric twice, so you need 3 cm for the allowance.

Denim skirt

They quickly rub between the legs and on the knees, you have to part with them. If the fabric is not worn and washed, then it will fit for sewing a cute original skirt.

Work process:

  1. Put on jeans and decide on the length.
  2. Mark the widest line of the hips on the fabric.
  3. Measure the bottom of the skirt width.
  4. Take off your trousers and rip along the crotch - from the back to the mark of the hips, in front to the codpiece.
  5. Turn the ripped workpiece inside out, put it on. To make the pencil skirt fit perfectly on the figure, you will need to chop the fabric at the back and front with pins.
  6. Carefully remove the trousers, draw a seam line with chalk. Sweep with a needle and thread.
  7. Try on. If the product fits well, then sew on a typewriter.
  8. Cut and tuck the hem of the skirt.

So that the thing does not hamper movement when walking, the length should be above the knee by the width of the palm. Or make a slit in the back for ease of movement.

Leather pants skirt

To work with the skin will require certain skills. Not every sewing machine can sew leather. Without thinking through this point, you may be faced with the fact that the machine will pull or “not take” it.

To remake an expensive leather item, it is better to turn to professionals in the studio.

For independent work on a small piece of skin, you need to check whether the machine will take a double seam.

Otherwise, the alteration work is no different from classic or denim trousers.

The main difficulty in sewing leather products is that the material does not tolerate ripping and altering several times in one place.

Any mistakes will be left with noticeable needle holes.

It is better to take larger pants for sewing a skirt:

  1. Break into separate parts.
  2. Impose finished pattern skirts and make four separate blanks for a four-piece skirt.

All work will be done from scratch, but there will be no defects and small holes on the product, and the skirt will look like new.

With a flounce on the coquette (basque)

For a perky flounced skirt, old trousers and, if desired, a piece of fabric will come in handy.

To sew such a model, you will need to follow the following steps:

  • Carefully cut off the top of the trousers, which will serve as the yoke of the skirt.
  • Overlock or zigzag to process the edges.
  • For flounces, rip open the cut off legs or cut the prepared fabric into wide ribbons. The width of the future shuttlecock should be 15-20 cm wider than the peplum. One frill is enough for a mini skirt. The circumference of the shuttlecock must match the circumference of the coquette. For a maxi skirt, you will need three frills (each next frill is 20 cm longer than the previous one).
  • Sweep the yoke with a shuttlecock on the wrong side and sew on a typewriter.
  • Edge trim or hem. The skirt is ready.

This style of skirt looks beautiful with a yoke of jeans. The fabric for flounces is selected to match, and the quality of the fabric does not matter. Great for:

  • silk;
  • chintz;
  • chiffon;
  • jeans;
  • velveteen.

Floor skirt

For such a product, you will need trousers with whole knees and a beautiful bottom, because the entire length of the legs will turn into a skirt. For work you will need:

  • out-of-fashion trousers;
  • needle and spool of thread;
  • sewing machine;
  • scissors;
  • decorative elements (lace, sequins, ribbons).

Principle of operation:

  1. Open the inner and middle seams.
  2. Remove protruding threads.
  3. Wash and carefully iron the workpiece.
  4. After spreading the fabric of the crotch, remove the extra corner.
  5. Sew along the front and back seams.

If the product is too narrow, you need to insert a wedge. For a triangular wedge, fabric from other trousers or a contrasting fabric, such as corduroy, linen, velvet, nylon, is suitable.

Sew the cut and cut wedge into the product and try it on. After trying on, stitch the seams, zigzag the edges.

A narrow model will be saved by cuts that can be made at the back, front or sides, trim them with wedge fabric or lace.
