Knitted patchwork: a riot of loops on hooks and knitting needles. Plaids in patchwork style. Crochet from the corner

Patchwork technique, which has become increasingly popular in recent years, is no less diverse than other sewing methods.

One of the options for creating bright, charming and original things in the style of patchwork is knitting squares or other geometric shapes.

As a result of this technique, you will get a mosaic canvas that can turn into a wardrobe element, interior decor item or other useful things.

How difficult it is to knit in a patchwork style, as well as what patterns to choose for needlework, we will find out together.

Technology features

Patchwork knitting is possible even for beginners, as this technique is performed according to very simple patterns. All you need is to decide on a geometric figure - and connect several elements of such forms, which will subsequently be connected to each other.

Important! If you use several shades of yarn in this process, you get a bright and always up-to-date design.

There are two options for knitting patterns step by step for beginners:

  • the first method involves the creation of separate square, diamond-shaped, polygonal and other elements. They are stitched together after completion knitting;
  • the second option is gradual the connection of elements is already at the stage of knitting geometric shapes. As a rule, this technique involves creating a square with knitting needles from the corner, but you can familiarize yourself with other methods.

How to knit a patchwork plaid

A patchwork of square elements is the most common option for creating knitted items in this style: plaids, bedspreads, capes. Before you knit a plaid with knitting needles from squares or create another item for the home, it is important to figure out exactly how to knit this figure.

A simple patchwork knitting pattern for beginners begins step by step with a set of the required number of loops per knitting needle. To create a square with a width of 15 loops, we need to create a row of the 31st (15 + 1 + 15). It is understood that one loop will create the corner of our future square.

The loops must be knitted on each side.

When creating the second row, decrease: instead of knitting, tie three loops together in the center. To make the edge of the figure have knots, remove the first loop from the knitting needle and knit the last one with the front one. When three loops have been reduced, cut and secure the thread by pulling it through the last loop.

The next step in knitting a patchwork with knitting needles with a description is the creation of a second geometric element. Traditionally, it is necessary to string 15 new loops on the knitting needle and 16 additional ones along the edge of the already created square: pull the knitting needle over the edge and pull out the loop. When creating this element, decrease the central loops in every second row, as well as when forming the first square.

Important! Calculate in advance how many squares of a given size you need to connect to get a product with the desired width.

All other squares in the row are tied to those already created. This master class of patchwork knitting with knitting needles is suitable for creating standard blankets for children and adults, since each newly created row of squares will have an even shape.

At the next stage of knitting a plaid with knitting needles from squares for beginners, we proceed to create the second and subsequent square rows. On the top edge, cast on 15 stitches and additionally throw another 16 chain stitches on the knitting needles. The element itself is knitted in the same way as before: loops are knitted, and decreases are made for the three central ones.

The second square in these rows is made with reference to the bottom and side. It is necessary to string 15 loops along the edge of the first row, make one from the corner and the remaining 15 - along the edge of the square, which is located next door. Finish the knitted blanket with square needles in the same way.

Ready-made plaid with squares in patchwork style

Remember! The direction of knitting elements must be constant: knitting is carried out from left to right.

We figured out the simplest technique of how to knit a children's blanket or an adult blanket in a patchwork style with knitting needles. But sometimes it becomes necessary to connect geometric fragments in different ways.

To diversify this process, add yarn of a different shade. It is important that the plaid of knitted squares with knitting needles has a harmonious color scheme.

If you have not done similar work before, it is better to knit a plaid with knitting needles from squares for beginners after mastering the basic techniques.

At a minimum, you should be familiar with the following:

  • in the connection of shreds by tying;
  • in the creation of double-sided knitting from loops of the front type;
  • in decreasing loops (that is, removing a loop and knitting from another front).

A little practice - and you will master all the important nuances. And then the process of knitting in the patchwork style will seem easy and exciting to you.

How to knit slippers and socks

Knitting with squares is good because it allows you to create many useful things. And if these are items of clothing like socks or slippers, you will complete the work pretty quickly.

To make slippers from squares with knitting needles, prepare yarn of uniform thickness and texture in several colors.

Patchwork knitting socks, photo

Now let's proceed to a detailed diagram and description of patchwork slippers with knitting needles. To begin with, a control square sample is made, which will have a diagonal half the length of the foot. Prepare 35 loops on the needles.

Patchwork-knitted slippers: knitting steps

After that, it is necessary to reduce the loops in the center: that is, after 16 front 3, the next 3 are reduced, and the remaining 16 are also made facial. This procedure is repeated in the future until we have only 9 loops left.

After that, start measuring the size of the foot - and compare the obtained parameters with the diagonal of the workpiece. If the parameters match each other, continue to knit slippers, otherwise the square must be knitted again from the same yarn, making the workpiece more or less dense.

To create the second element for slippers from squares with knitting needles, type 13 loops from the left edge on a free knitting needle - and knit them with facial loops. The right 13 loops fit in the same way. That is, in the end we should get 35 loops on the knitting needles. They knit face.

We use this technique until we get one loop. After that, the thread is cut off, and 34 loops of a different color scheme are strung on the knitting needle. We repeat all the manipulations again until we get one loop. We received the side of our slippers. The second side is knitted in the same way.

Now you can again take the first type of thread to form the heel. This technique allows you to create not only slippers, but also socks and even footprints with patchwork knitting needles. Cast on 34 edge stitches and decrease to nine. Then pick up 13 edge loops - and make the front row: this way you can get both the left and the right side.

Continue decreasing stitches - and knit the remaining square to the end.

The next step involves knitting slippers from squares with knitting needles around the perimeter. On four knitting needles, type edge loops - and start circular knitting with alternating purl and front rows. So you can save the given pattern. Decrease loops at the folds.

After knitting eight rows, close the loops. Now try on slippers to once again make sure that the parameters are correctly selected. Patchwork style socks are knitted with an increase in the number of rows for tying.

A similar technique is used to create patchwork mittens with knitting needles, but in this case it is necessary to add an element for the thumb to the base.

We knit a sweater

Quite common is the practice of creating patchwork sweaters, dresses, jackets and other items of clothing. Since the technique for creating these garments is largely similar, we will give an example of one patchwork knitting master class.

All descriptions given are for making a patchwork sweater using size 36 squares. If you need other parameters, you should increase or decrease the number of loops in the rows.

Patchwork-style pullover with knitting needles can be made in the form of several patterns. The first way is to create a "mesh" pattern on clothes. Create loops in a quantity that is divided by four + 1 and 2 edge.

The front part is made by combining an edge loop and rapport. Work 2 loops together with knit, 2 yarn over and 2 together with knit. The last two loops will be front and edge.

The wrong side is made from the hem, purl loop and rapport according to the following scheme: purl loop + nakid (wrong) twice + purl, hem.

For a pullover or jumper with knitting needles in the patchwork style, the “braid” pattern is also suitable. Cast on 20 sts and 2 hem sts per needle. See the pattern for knitting the front side of the product.

To create the wrong side according to the pattern, make the nakidy purl. Repeat the pattern from the first to the tenth row.

Calculate the density of the pattern for the pattern. In the case of a mesh, a 10 by 10 cm fragment will contain 18 loops and 24 rows. If you use the Braid pattern, 20 loops + two edge and 24 rows should be placed in a sample with similar parameters.

When creating a pattern, separate the back and front. Only then will they merge with each other. In the diagram, the direction of knitting can be seen from the arrows. Accordingly, each part of the front and back is knitted twice.

Step-by-step instructions for creating knitted sweaters using the patchwork technique:

  • with gray yarn, start knitting fragment A. Put 39 loops on the knitting needle - and start knitting the mesh pattern up 24 cm (58 rows);
  • now proceed to element B. To do this, cast on 27 loops and make 74 rows with a total height of 24 cm;
  • take beige yarn, dial 22 loops - and knit 58 rows of part A (24 cm) with a “braid” pattern;
  • similarly with 22 loops we knit a beige fragment B for 74 rows (30.5 cm);
  • sew a pullover from prepared elements;
  • to knit the shoulder strap along the upper edge, cast on 86 beige loops, knit four rows (1.5 cm) with the wrong side - and close the loops;
  • the lower bar is made in gray from 86 loops. Make a purl with a height of 1.5 cm (four rows), after which also close the edge;
  • start with the sleeves. Take the gray yarn, make 42 loops, knit the bar in four rows with the wrong side. Now make a mesh pattern with repeat. To make bevels, add 9 loops on both sides of the plank in the eighth rows, and 12 loops in the sixth;
  • 60 loops will remain on your knitting needles. When you get a sleeve 33.5 cm long (this is the 80th row from the bar), close the edges.

The assembly of the knitted sweater starts from the shoulder seams (13 cm each on both sides). In the center there will be 22 cm of open loops that are intended for the neck.

Sew the sleeves to the base, connecting the seams of all elements - and you can try on the product.

You can make dresses in patchwork style, as well as jackets, cardigans, vests, ponchos in the same way.

Despite the apparent complexity of the technique, you can quickly master all the nuances: the main thing is to practice a little.

Even beginners like modular knitting, as it is quickly remembered and does not cause any problems. And if the above terms seem too confusing to you - watch the video of knitting with your own hands in the patchwork style - and then you will definitely not make mistakes in the process.

Crochet patchwork. Master Class

Author's text: "Crochet patchwork is fun and easy, any threads and their remnants especially will come in handy. The main element is a square, there are several ways to knit it. I offer one of the options. We knit a square from two sides. For example, the side length is 15 ch (this is just an example - the size of the square is at your discretion.) Accordingly, we dial 15 ch + 1ch (middle) + 15ch First row: 14 sbn, 3bn we knit together, 14 sbn. they will be embossed.

Got a square. We collect on the upper side 15 ch + 1ch + 15ch we collect for the second side of the second square.

We knit like the first. You can grow the canvas in this way to the size you need:

On the basis of the square, we knit a rectangle - it’s like two squares put together, respectively, we collect 15ch + 1ch + 30ch + 1ch + 15ch and knit, reducing the columns in two corners:

Similarly, we knit an element of three conditionally composed squares:

You can arrange the elements in the canvas as you wish:"

Patchwork is an art for those who like to make a whole out of parts. It requires perseverance, the need to read the diagrams and follow them, and at the same time, improvisation in this needlework is enough. Patchwork has become a favorite technique for creating various home decorations - blankets, capes, bedspreads, pot holders. In the kitchen, this technique is often used in the manufacture of chair covers.

Crochet - needlework, where the patchwork technique turned out to be very out of place. This is the so-called multi-color crochet, which allows you to create a product with almost any pattern with your own hands, while there will be no broaches from the wrong side.

Virginia Woods Bellamy came up with this technique, she called it "number knitting". Another name is modular knitting, or patchwork knitting.

Knitted patchwork is based on garter stitch, which is convenient for calculations. The width of one loop is classically equal to the height of two rows, so it is easy to draw a pattern on graph paper and calculate the loops and rows in each fragment.

Actually, a figure is knitted in the usual way, for example, a square. And there are a lot of such elements to be connected, in order to then be connected with the same crochet. This is not difficult, but requires rigor in the calculations and perseverance.

Knitted plaid crochet in patchwork style

If there is a cozy sofa in the kitchen, sooner or later you will want to “settle” a warm blanket there. It can be crocheted using patchwork technology.

To create this cute and bright patchwork plaid, you will need:

  • several skeins of yarn of different colors,
  • hook,
  • scheme.

For yarn, you will need woolen threads, or cotton. Hypoallergenic yarn is recommended if the blanket is intended for a baby.

Hanks are better to choose bright, rich colors. At the same time, do not forget that any color accents must be balanced. Therefore, threads of milky color, light beige, sea sand or light yellow are needed to border the squares of the future plaid.

Step by step crochet plaid:

  • First of all, a circle is drawn from air loops. Three subsequent air loops will begin the first column, after which 2 columns are knitted with a crochet.
  • Then the scheme is as follows: two air loops - three double crochets, repeat this twice, and after typing two more air loops, the ends of the workpiece are connected.
  • In the second row, it is important to mark the corners of the motif. Therefore, two air loops are recruited between double crochets.
  • The blanks suggest different schemes: some will have only two rows, others will have four, as well as six, eight, and finally ten rows.
  • You can also crochet the details arbitrarily, but it is better to use a special pattern.
  • The easiest option is to change the color of the thread every two knitted rows.
  • You can use motifs of the same size.

If the squares for the plaid are the same, then the internal scheme of the motive may be more complicated than the one described above. Actually, you need to take any crochet square pattern, any pattern you like. You can leave the colors that are used in the original product, you can experiment. A small plaid consists of twenty large squares. For a kitchen sofa, such a blanket will be just right.

Patchwork in the kitchen - ideas

Knitwear in the kitchen is a necessary element of comfort if you want to dilute the geometric rigor of kitchen furniture.

For example, knitted rugs on the dining table can be an excellent option. They can also be called napkins, but rather, they resemble small rugs. Their practicality is not so high, but the decorative function is impeccable. For knitting such rugs, very dense threads are taken, even hard ones, and the knitting, accordingly, must be dense. It can be colored wide stripes interconnected. Or, again, colored squares.

In addition, you can knit using the patchwork technique for the kitchen:

  • Covers for the windowsill. If you want to make it soft and cozy, and it is also wide enough to sit on it with a cup of steaming tea, knitted bedspreads will decorate this warm place.
  • Covers for stools. The main requirement is that their color and pattern should echo at least one, but bright, element of the kitchen interior.
  • Rug. It may not seem practical at first glance, but such a soft rug can be taken out on cold evenings, laid under the dining table, and the legs are both warm and just cozy.
  • Festive tablecloth. Knitted tablecloths are definitely not everyday items. But they look so authentic, cute and gentle that for some cases it’s better not to pick up a gizmo.

And from knitted motifs you can make comfortable home clothes, bags, toys, charming blankets for kids. Moreover, needlewomen even make whole patchwork sets that look very beautiful.

There are no limits to fantasy in patchwork knitting. Whether it is a knitted plaid or a cover, the same item can be made in different colors, according to different schemes and patterns. Many craftswomen not only made their homes more beautiful with the help of patchwork knitted things, but also began to earn money by knitting to order. Therefore, it can even be cost-effective to try your hand at this modern technique with traditional roots.

Coat THAT ANOTHER SNAKE master class - knitting scales

Knitting scales.
_____________

Intarsia, knitted patchwork, modular knitting - the names are different, but the essence is the same; the canvas is assembled from separately connected pieces. If you know how to knit facial and purl, then everything else is not at all difficult.

We collect loops on the knitting needles for one scale. It is advisable to knit one trial for the correct calculation of the number of loops, because the lower part of the scale will arch in the process of knitting and its length will become shorter due to this. We calculate the length by measuring from one lower corner to the other, in a straight line. I cast on 45 loops (any odd number is possible) per scale (yarn 50g - 135m) at the rate of 3 scales in length on the back and one and a half on the shelves.

Garter knit (all rows are knit). Nobody interferes with knitting with any patterns, but my threads are melange and the emphasis is on color.
We knit: 1 row - we remove the hem, 43 front, we knit the hem with the wrong side.
2nd row - remove the hem, 2 together front, 41 front, 2 together front, knit the hem with the wrong side.
So we continue to knit two loops together, next to the edge ones in each row, and we knit all the middle loops with facial loops until 3 loops remain on the knitting needle. We knit them together with the front. We do not cut the thread, we leave the skein along with the scale.

In the same way, we knit the second scale (new skein / ball).

Looks like a swimsuit bra in the photo :)

We knit the second row of scales from the upper edge loops of the lower rows in a checkerboard pattern. To get 45 loops again, we knit the loops from the front and back walls.

The side half-flake is knitted in the same way (we collect half the loops, I have 23), only the loops are not removed in front of the edge side to get a smooth vertical edge.

So we collect all the canvas. We do not break the threads, but we begin to knit each subsequent scale from the previous thread.
