How to choose a baby frost cream. Face cream against frost and wind for children and adults - how to choose reliable protection? Weather cream for babies

Even if you bought the world's warmest overalls KERRY for a child, you can't pull it over your face. Therefore, in a pair of clothes, you need to take care of choosing the best frost cream for a child. We will tell you what should not be in the composition of baby cream and name the top 10, in our opinion, based on reviews and facts.Frost creams are sold visibly, invisibly, but not all of them are equally useful, although they are effective. Many people prefer the generation-tested Soviet creams “Children's” and “Tick-tock”, someone trusts only manufacturers from the USA and Europe, someone does not trust anyone, but reads the labels intently, and someone does not bother and smears the first one that comes across store. What category do you belong to? We decided to check many popular creams for composition and choose for you the best representatives of the cold cream class (cold - from the word cold - cold)

What to look for in the ideal composition?

Since the main function of the cream is to protect, it is logical to assume waxes and oils in its composition. Useful and effective ingredients are natural oils, beeswax, panthenol or dexpanthenol. These substances have anti-inflammatory and healing effects, soothe the skin. Chamomile (may be listed as chamomile) is suitable for sensitive children's skin, since almost no one is allergic. Zinc oxide helps in tissue regeneration. Fennel (Fennel) - in creams is a kind of catalyst, because it has the ability to enhance the healing effect of other ingredients. Calendula (Calendula) - has an anti-inflammatory effect by creating a protective barrier against bacteria and viruses. Olive oil (oil Olive) - contains many vitamins and minerals. Coconut oil (oil Coconut) - is becoming increasingly popular in the field of cosmetology as an antioxidant that helps protect the face. Sesame oil (oil Sesam) helps to avoid skin flaking in winter. Mink oil (oil Mink) - valued for its ability to quickly heal wounds and other damage, and also softens the skin well.

What should not be?

Few manufacturers dare to include parabens, refined petroleum products, paraffin oil and artificial fats in the composition, although they are not prohibited. It's just that everyone knows that even for an adult, these substances can be harmful, and even more so for a child. Usually on the label it is written in large letters that there is nothing of the kind. If there is no such inscription, see the composition. Parabens are followed by completely harmless-sounding petroleum jelly (in the composition it can be designated as E 905b, E905b, vaseline, petrolatum, petroleumjelly, petroleumamber, whitepetroleum, yellowpetroleum, paraffin). And all because it, laying down with a dense film, prevents the evaporation of water. In frost, this property of it can cause frostbite of the skin, but in windy weather up to -5 and cream with Vaseline will do just fine. The second enemy to avoid in the composition is alcohol. Up to 2 years, do not even think about buying creams with it in the composition, as it dries the skin very much. Then - with caution. It is better that there is no water in the cold cream. It's the same logic as with your moisturizer. Water in the cold will turn into crystals and damage the baby's delicate skin. This does not mean that you cannot buy a cream with water, there is nothing harmful in the water itself. Just do not forget that after application and before going outside, 30-40 minutes should pass.

How to apply the cream correctly?

Even if there is no water in the cream you have chosen, it is better to apply it half an hour before going outside, as the cream must have time to form a protective film. If water is included in the composition, it should have time to evaporate during this time. By the way, the time of action of the cream is also limited, as well as sunscreen. Approximately, the cream protects for 6-8 hours. It is unlikely that you walk in the cold with a child longer. But it is better to remember this information. And here is another tip that is almost never followed: after returning, the cream must be washed off.

Below is an overview of the most popular remedies that we believe are reasonably safe. Among them, it is not possible to single out the best one, because when choosing, an individual approach is necessary: someone has an allergic child, and natural extracts may be contraindicated for him, someone will only need an eco-composition, someone the consistency and smell will be more important than the ideal composition. It's good to have a choice! And it's good to know exactly what you choose for your child. A protective balm against wind and cold

Children's cream against wind and frost Vkusvill

Price: 160 rubles

For girls who prefer a domestic manufacturer, we thought for a long time which cream to include in our high-quality and “boldly recommended” list. Among the contenders that mothers praise so much on the net were: Baby cream, Alisa cream, Tick-tock, Morozko, 911. Yes, most of our creams cost 50-100 rubles, and this allows you to close your eyes to the imperfections of the composition. But if you still look at it, you will see that almost all creams contain petroleum jelly (there is no tik-tak). But in Tik-tak there is an allergenic component coumarin. Morozko and 911 contain parabens. But we still wanted to find our excellent cream - and we found it. In Vkusvil! The cream from wind and frost is inexpensive, and its composition is simply impressive. Nothing harmful, not even a hint. The cream nourishes, protects and strengthens the skin's natural protective barrier. Chicken fat makes the skin soft and supple, does not irritate and does not clog pores. Coconut and shea oils neutralize the negative effects of sunlight, wind and frost, soften the skin, soothe redness. Extracts of chamomile flowers and string gently care for the skin of the child, contributing to its restoration. Does not contain mineral oils, parabens and dyes. The scent is natural and the absorbency is perfect. Suitable from birth. They can do ours if they want!

Cold cream performs several tasks:

  1. Protection. Creates a mechanical barrier against frost and wind, creating a film on the skin. These are beeswax, vegetable wax, vegetable and mineral oils, silicones, lanolin. Vaseline is also often used for protection purposes, but it can backfire and clog pores. In addition, unpleasant on the skin.
  2. Softening to eliminate dryness. Vegetable oils, natural lipids.
  3. Calming ingredients. Plant extracts (chamomile, calendula, eucalyptus), panthenol, vitamins. Allergic children need to be careful with extracts and essential oils.

When to apply cold cream?

  • Cold cream should be applied at least 30-40 minutes before going out into the cold, so that the water contained in it has time to evaporate and not turn into ice (otherwise, the remaining water in the cream does not have time to evaporate and increases the risk of frostbite!). There are products that contain glycols instead of water, the freezing point of which is much lower (propylene glycol, decylene glycol), they are not toxic in small concentrations.
  • Infants in a closed bassinet do not need to apply cold cream
  • If the baby is already walking alone or in an open stroller, use a protective cream already at -3-5 ° C or in strong winds
  • Use a special protective cream against frost and bad weather
  • Apply the cream only to exposed areas of the child's body
  • Apply cream evenly, blot excess with a tissue
  • Do not use a moisturizer to protect against frost (only after a walk)!
  • Children's protective cream is especially recommended for children with a tendency to atopy, cold allergies.
  • after returning from a walk, do not forget to wash off the cream from the face, after washing, apply baby cream with panthenol or bepanthen cream.

Do not overestimate the possibilities of cold cream, in case of strong wind and frost it is better to protect the skin with a warm cloth and reduce the walking time to a minimum

If there is no protective cream at hand, and you need to go out into the cold, then use vegetable oil, lanolin (many nursing mothers probably have Purilan), protective baby lipstick, ointment (!) Bepanten.

Compound?

  • Cold cream should not contain petrolatum(E 905b, E905b, vaseline, petrolatum, petroleumjelly, petroleumamber, whitepetroleum, yellowpetroleum, paraffin), as it, laying down as a dense film, prevents the evaporation of water that accumulates in the upper layers of the skin, which can lead to frostbite. But, if the temperature is up to -5, such a cream will protect against strong winds.
  • Alcohol cream dries out the skin and can cause irritation. Before 2 years, it is better not to use such funds.
  • It is better that there is no cold cream water, because after application, it needs time to evaporate. Otherwise, in the cold, it will turn into ice microcrystals and damage the skin. Therefore, it is optimal to use a cream without water in the composition (the only fat-based cream that does not contain water is Weleda cold balm)
  • If a water in the composition cream contains, then the cream should be applied half an hour before leaving the house

We analyzed the composition of popular frost creams:

  • There were many questions about the use of children's "Soviet" creams as a remedy for frost. They contain a lot of protective and nutritious substances, as in cold creams. But they contain petroleum jelly (paraffin), which prevents moisture from evaporating from the skin, which can cause frostbite. Plus, Vaseline clogs pores.
  • Among the three children's creams (with a cat, Alice and tick-tock) - Alice and children's with a cat are very similar in composition. They contain petroleum jelly, tik-tak does not have it, but the highly allergenic coumarin flavor (the smell of fresh grass) alerted me. All three creams contain herbal extracts.
  • So, baby creams Alice and cream with a cat can be used as a cold cream, but not in frost (or not for a long time in frost), it can be in windy weather. Tick-tock is possible even in the cold.
  • Don't forget to wash off the cream when you get home.
  • Also, please note that in addition to the classic, familiar creams, their “light” versions also appeared, they are not suitable for protection from the weather

Parents often ask why there are so many troubles in winter, because at other times of the year there are no skin problems. . The fact is that in winter adverse factors act together, combined.

There are the following factors that affect the condition of the skin in winter:

  • delicate baby skin. The skin of the child has its own characteristics, it is thinner and more sensitive, more prone to irritation. Winter frosts are not an easy test for delicate baby skin. If the clothes protect the body of the child, then the skin of the face is not protected at all, and all the effects of cold fall on the face and hands of the crumbs;
  • wrong care.Too thorough and frequent cleansing of the skin leads to the washing off of the protective lipid layer, the skin cannot withstand low temperatures. Applying creams just before going outside only increases the risk of frostbite. Moisturizing creams contain water, which quickly turns into ice under the influence of low temperatures;
  • temperature contrast. The temperature difference between outdoors and indoors also affects the skin. Under the influence of low temperatures, the narrowing of the vessels of the skin occurs, this reaction is aimed at preserving heat. When it enters a warm room, the vessels expand sharply, the famous winter blush appears on the cheeks. This temperature contrast affects the condition of the skin, can lead to irritation and dryness;
  • dry air. Moreover, the air becomes drier both outdoors and indoors. Water vapor that is in the air freezes out due to low temperatures. At home, heaters and convectors work hard, reducing the level of humidity in the air. All this in combination reduces the protective function and moisture of the skin;
  • wind and snow. These factors irritate delicate skin, increase itching and local inflammation.

The main skin problems in winter

  1. Drying of the skin. Unfavorable factors affecting the skin lead to its dryness, decrease in elastic properties. Dry skin is prone to irritation, cracks form, especially for thin lips.
  2. Frostbite. In the event of a sharp decrease in body temperature, blood flow to the internal organs increases, this protects the vital systems from cooling. Blood flow to superficial tissues is reduced, the skin quickly freezes, probably even frostbite of unprotected areas.
  3. Cold allergy. Sometimes the body perceives cold as an irritant and produces a substance inherent in allergic reactions - histamine. In this case, under the influence of low temperatures, hives, swelling and itching appear on the skin, all signs of an allergy.

To prevent unpleasant situations, to maintain health, you need to know the rules of prevention and the basics of winter skin care.

How to prevent skin diseases in winter?

Caring for immunity

Hardening will increase not only the defenses of the whole organism, but also help the skin to quickly adapt to temperature changes. Daily water procedures are a guarantee of the health of the child. But do not go to extremes and douse the crumbs with ice water. For the formation of immunity, it is enough to change hot water to cooler.

A healthy diet plays a huge role in the formation of immunity. The child must receive protein foods that provide enough energy. Often in winter, the baby’s diet lacks plant foods rich in vitamins. Dried fruit compotes, rosehip broth will help solve this problem. Children are happy to drink sweet decoctions and replenish the supply of vitamins.

Weather in the house

Most of the time during the cold season we spend indoors. The heating system significantly dries the air, the skin and mucous membranes of the baby also lose moisture. Dry skin cannot perform its protective function, irritation, peeling and itching occur.

For normal operation of the skin, the humidity in the apartment should not fall below 50%. Although often during the heating season it does not exceed 25 %, in such conditions the skin will certainly lose moisture, dry out.

There are many ways to humidify the air. An excellent option, but requiring material costs -. Water consumption and spraying frequency are set depending on your desire, and a variety of models will allow you to choose the device that suits you.

If there is no humidifier, ordinary items will help to cope with the dryness of the air. Leave an open container of water or wet towels in the room. Spray water with a spray bottle or get fish, the aquarium will act as a humidifier.

Sufficient amount of water

Externally applied products are not enough to moisturize the skin. You can't do without the right drinking regimen. Make sure that the baby's diet contains juices, compotes, a sufficient amount of drinking water. Breastfeeding children should be offered breasts more often, artificial babies should be supplemented with clean water.

Baby personal hygiene

Do not forget about water procedures in winter. Bathing is an integral part of a child's personal hygiene. Sometimes mothers notice that after bathing, the baby's skin becomes drier. Indeed, hard chlorinated water has an irritating effect, reduces the level of skin moisture.

To avoid problems, you need to swim properly. The child does not need a daily bath in the winter, regular washing is enough. Pamper your baby with a bath 2-3 times a week, provided the water temperature is comfortable. The duration of the procedure should not exceed 10 minutes.

Do not overheat the water for bathing, hot water washes away the protective film from the skin, making it susceptible to irritants. No need to steam the crumbs, the ideal water temperature is 37 degrees. The higher the temperature, the more the skin of the crumbs suffers and dehydrates.

Pay attention to the means for bathing the baby, in winter this is especially important.

For children, special liquid products, gels and foams are suitable. They do not contain soap, gently and gently cleanse the skin without destroying the protective lipid layer. Ordinary soap acts aggressively, it has an alkaline environment and dehydrates the baby's skin.

Caring mothers often add decoctions of herbs or a solution of manganese to bathing water, especially for babies up to a year old. But such experiments do not always bring positive results. A solution of manganese significantly dries out delicate skin, and some herbs cause allergic reactions. If the baby's skin is healthy, you do not need to add them to the bathing water.

After bathing, pat the skin of the crumbs with a clean individual towel, let it dry naturally. Active drying and rubbing adversely affects the health of the skin.

If your baby's skin is prone to dryness, apply a special moisturizer. Light creams, lotions or body milk are well suited for children. At the beginning, the product must be applied to the hands, add a drop of water and evenly distribute over the skin of the baby. Never use greasy creams, do not apply products in a thick layer, this disrupts the respiratory function of the skin.

In case of diaper rash and irritation, it is recommended to apply special regenerating creams based on panthenol, chamomile, aloe vera to the damaged areas.

Walk time

To prevent hypothermia and protect the baby from skin problems, you need to adjust the time of the walk. If the thermometer has dropped noticeably below zero, reduce the time spent outside to 20-30 minutes, but you can breathe fresh air several times a day or walk on the balcony.

How to determine at what temperature you should not go outside? Dr. Komarovsky claims that minus 5 degrees should be added for every month of life, but the air temperature should not fall below 15 degrees.

Clothing protection

In frosty weather, all winter wardrobe accessories will come in handy, mittens, a scarf and a hat will come in handy. The legs of the crumbs should be warm and dry, the child should move his fingers freely.

But with warming, too, you do not need to be overly zealous. A sweaty baby is more prone to colds, and excess moisture on the face contributes to frostbite of the skin.

Winter cosmetics

Special creams have been developed to protect children's skin in winter. High-quality products will protect the skin from the cold wind, eliminate irritation and redness, and restore the natural protective barrier.

Apply winter protective equipment 30 minutes before going for a walk. That is how much time it takes for the cream to create a protective film that protects the skin of the crumbs from frost.

When choosing cosmetics, pay attention to the composition, naturalness, the absence of dyes, alcohols, alkalis. All products must be hypoallergenic and approved by pediatricians.

The main component of winter protective cosmetics is animal or vegetable fats. The fatty film envelops the skin, protects it from the aggressive effects of frost and wind. At the same time, a good protective agent retains moisture and does not clog pores, allowing the skin to breathe.

Mineral oils in children's cosmetics should be avoided. Paraffin, wax, petroleum jelly are obtained from oil, these artificial substances do not dissolve in water and alcohols. A product based on mineral oils creates a stable film and disrupts breathing and gas exchange in the skin. The permissible content of mineral oils in children's cosmetics is less than 10%.

The composition of protective creams may also include:

  • panthenol. The remedy has long been known for its regenerating properties, perfectly heals wounds, and has a calming effect. Widely used to treat wounds and burns;
  • allantoin. A substance of plant origin, synthesized from comfrey, wheat germ. Allantoin creates a thin protective film on the skin, promotes wound healing and has an anti-inflammatory effect;
  • herbal extracts. Properly selected herbs in proper concentrations have a softening, anti-inflammatory, wound-healing effect;
  • vitamins A, E, F. Regulate metabolic processes in the skin, participate in lipid metabolism, protect the skin from adverse environmental factors.

Never apply a moisturizer before a winter walk, use only a protective cream. Increased skin moisture will provoke hypothermia and increase the risk of frostbite. Moisturizing cream is good to use at home, better before bed.

Do not forget about the delicate skin of the lips of the crumbs, which is prone to cracking. Apply baby hygienic lipstick 15 minutes before leaving the house, this time will be enough to form a protective film that reliably protects the lips from drying out.

When should you sound the alarm? Frostbite in children

In most cases, the skin reacts to frost with redness and chapping, but sometimes frostbite occurs. It all depends on weather conditions, wind strength and air humidity, as well as on the individual characteristics of the baby's skin. The younger the child and the lower the temperature outside, the greater the chance of frostbite. In dry, calm weather, the risk of frostbite is minimal.

Frostbite occurs on open areas of the body, cheeks, nose, ears. The palms and feet are also often affected, especially if the child has tight shoes and the mittens are wet.

The child may not notice the first signs of frostbite, but parents should pay attention and be alert if:

  • the baby's cheeks turned red, and then turned pale, white spots appeared;
  • the affected areas become edematous;
  • the child complains of numbness, tingling, burning sensation;
  • there is trembling in the body, weakness, drowsiness, body temperature decreases;
  • at home, the baby feels pain, a spot clearly appears on the skin;
  • the speck peels off, and a seal appears in the center.

Doctors divide frostbite into 4 degrees. A doctor can accurately determine the depth of the lesion and prescribe treatment. Frostbite of the first degree resolves on its own in a few days, deeper damage requires serious treatment.

If you suspect frostbite in a child, immediately go into the warmth, wrap the baby in a blanket. At home, undress the baby, warm the baby with, gradually. Never apply heating pads to the affected skin, do not lower frostbitten hands into hot water.

If the baby is in pain, chills, give an anti-inflammatory, pain reliever. The appearance of blisters indicates the depth of the lesion and requires immediate medical attention.

Never rub frostbitten areas of the body, this injures the skin and increases the risk of tissue infection.

In winter, it is important to take care of the baby's skin, because it is so delicate and sensitive! How to protect the baby's face from chapping and what products are better to choose? The chief editor and young mother Olga Bodnar tells.

Olga Bodnar, website editor-in-chief

Winter has covered us! Frosts hit, and mothers with strollers hid within four walls - waiting for warmer temperatures and, so to speak, better times for walking their babies. But we're not weaklings, are we? Moreover, the beloved and respected doctor Komarovsky says that a daily walk, along with air humidification and moderate room temperature, is the key to your child’s strong immunity. Let's leave the issues of sores - this is a topic for a separate material, let's talk about how to protect the skin of a child if you are not afraid of the cold and are ready to tinker with your child in the fresh air for at least half an hour. Below are my personal hacks that I apply to my 4-month-old Kira, as well as a selection of the best products to protect baby's skin in winter.

Without lyrics and water. Cold air has an extremely negative effect on the thin and therefore very sensitive epidermis on the baby's face. When staying in the cold, aggravated by snowfall and icy wet wind, the child can get:

  • a) cold burn (very red and irritated skin with elements of dryness, red blood vessels),
  • b) cold allergy (redness, irritation, rash - as if with urticaria),
  • c) total dryness of the skin,
  • d) cracks and burst vessels,
  • e) frostbite (pah-pah, but still I have to mention it) with such symptoms: thick redness, numbness (for example, nostrils or cheeks), coles.

These are the most basic problems that can arise with the baby's skin if the mother does not learn how to properly care for her. But just imagine how a child, especially a baby like mine, will suffer if the frost does its bad deed and “treats” its face with its icy tentacles? Temperature, crying, poor sleep - all this is 100% guaranteed. Do we need it? Not! Therefore, read below.

5 life hacks for baby skin care in cold weather

1. Baby cream. Before a walk, 20 minutes before, apply a dense nourishing and hypoallergenic cream or product based on natural oils on the face (do not forget about the ears and hands!) of the child. Distribute with massage movements over the face and wait until it is absorbed (about 5 minutes), blot the rest with a napkin.

2. Read the label! The composition of children's creams should not contain fragrances, parabens, dyes and alcohols. It is best that the protective cream includes ingredients such as: vitamins A, E, natural oils (olive, sesame, calendula, cocoa, etc.), beeswax, allantoin, panthenol, dexpanthenol - components that perfectly soothe and relieve inflammation , extracts of medicinal herbs (calendula, lavender, sage, chamomile, etc.). On the lips of a child, you can apply either hygienic lipstick or, again, a layer of protective cream.

3. Skin care after frost. After the walk, undress the baby, let him adapt to the temperature of the room in the apartment. When the redness from the frost subsides, examine the child's face: how did he endure the wind and frost? Then, look at the situation: you can remove dryness and redness with the same products based on natural oils, as well as a light decoction of chamomile or sage. You can first wash the child with a decoction, and then apply a restorative agent to the face. The procedure can be repeated at night. In the morning, the baby's face will shine with a smile!

4. How to warm a child after a cold? If the baby is cold, do not immediately bring it to the battery, heater and turn on the air conditioner for heating at full power! It is better to change the child into warm home clothes and let him warm himself - in a natural way. Or warm the baby with your body, just picking it up and leaning it against you (and along the way, you can read a book to him). Important: do not rub or rub the frozen skin and body parts! And even more important (no matter how your grandmother persuades you), do not rub it with any alcohol tinctures - this can aggravate the situation, increase irritation and redness, rash, dryness, and also, which may very well cause fever.

5. Hardening in winter. Personally, I am for healthy hardening! I have read about this more than once from recognized experts and not a single pediatrician advised me to do this. Moderate hardening of a child makes him stronger, healthier and helps to endure winter cold and frost normally - without colds, snot and fever. A similar situation is with the skin of a child, which also has its own immunity and, as it hardens, learns self-defense. Bathe the child not in boiling water, but in warm water up to 27-30C, and not 3 minutes, but at least 10-15 minutes. Do not wrap your baby at home: one layer of clothing is enough! Ventilate the baby's room, wash the floor more often, use a humidifier, make sure that the temperature in the room is 19-22 C maximum. This is all a guarantee of health and strong immunity not only for the child, but for the whole family.

My favorites: the best products for baby skin care in winter

Children's protective balm with calendula - it can and should be smeared on the noses of our children, as well as ... yourself, if the skin is dry and especially sensitive. The balm does not contain water, instead, its formula contains lanolin (natural sheep wool fat that warms shaggy Dollies in any even the harshest frost), which retains moisture in the skin cells, which, in turn, protects it from dehydration and, accordingly, dryness.

Beeswax, which is also contained in this balm, creates a reliable “shield” on the surface of the skin, which does not clog pores, but also reliably protects it from weather troubles. And, of course, calendula! The extract of this miracle plant has long been known for its miraculous properties: it heals, restores and heals any irritations, wounds and cracks, quickly soothes reddened weathered skin and eliminates the discomfort it causes. Perfectly absorbed into the skin of the crumbs, leaving behind a comfortable oily layer that protects our favorite noses from frost). I advise you to apply it on the baby's face, not forgetting about sponges, ears and pens) It is best to do this 15-20 minutes before going outside

Face cream with marshmallow for hypersensitive skin Weleda. Another favorite of Cyril from Weleda. Gentle, comfortable, very pleasant cream that is instantly absorbed and also instantly soothes irritated skin on the baby's face. I use it after a walk, even if the child's skin does not look affected by frost - I do this for prevention and in order to strengthen the protective barrier, soften and prevent inflammation. The healing effect is due to the "star" of the product - Marshmallow officinalis, which is the author of a powerful shield from external factors. In addition, the cream is saturated with natural oils (like many other Weleda products) - coconut and sesame, as well as safflower and borage, rich in omega-6 acids + it contains all the same beeswax, which I highly recommend looking out for on the labels of children's winter funds. And one more significant plus: the cream has no smell, it is absolutely neutral.

To meet spring fully armed, you need to take great care of yourself in winter. At this time, changeable due to weather conditions, it is very important to choose the right skin care and. And in the period of severe frosts, be sure to use a protective cream. Today we will tell you how!
